I don't recommend equipping dcc to this coupler. The dcc uncoupling system may be useless treasure for this coupler. Because the uncoupling pin made from round bar,so the pin rotate inside the coupler. I recommend the microtrains-one,or kato's magnetic for your purpose.They have square pin,not rotate.

Yes, they are N scale medium shank couplers.

Q: I have an older set of n scale cars with rapido style couplers, but my new bachman locomotive has the new/smaller style. would these work? Replace?

I had bought this type coupler few years ago, but I don't recommend this tyle for replacing rapido . The "whisker" was too rigid to swing. I recommend micro-trains or kato.
