This is a gift so haven’t used but have tested to fit a wire myself which is easy and goes tight to slice easily , just annoyed that the wire already fitted was broken as in other reviews so the 2 extra you get is actually only one

Nice marble base and non-skid pads.BUT, what is totally unforgiveable is that this (a gift) arrived with 'a BROKEN installed cutting wire".Read the many negative comments about this issue going back quite some timeThat this item is NOT packaged properly or the quality of the cutting wires is TOTALLY SUBSTANDARD is really a black mark on Amazon's and the vendor's reputation.This is a case of AN ABSENCE of QUALITY CONTROL at the factory.Substandard wire quality and substandard packaging.We have used one of these slicers for a number of years with NO ISSUES. It came with 2 replacement wires and we still have one spare taped to the base.So, the design is great, but the quality of the cutting wire and packaging has taken a nosedive.The least the vendor should do is to provide free replacement cutting wires for all the customers who have received slicers with broken wires.There's not even a link to contact the vendor to have this happen.Shame on Amazon for this oversight.

Not sure why so many people are breaking this. It works like a charm, I tested it on soft creamy cheese and varied through to old hard cheddar. I get the feeling people are too heavy handed with it, it's not a slicer, its a wire, cut smooth and steady. The arm is a little flimsy but it certainly doesn't feel like it will break. Good product, absolutely worth the price.

The shipping was super fast. The quality of the product is just ok. There is no real tension adjustment except to bend the bar outwards but then the wire rubs the side of the wire slot on the board. It takes some fine tuning to bend and adjust the wire position to make it line up right. But if the wire gets slack with use then it will be no good and the wire will have to be replaced. Hopefully it will last long. Only time will tell.11/08/2017: Review update: Had to lower my star rating to 1 start. Went through all three wires within 6 months of use. In fact, we bare used it as we only pulled it out to slice cheese every other week. The last wire broke after only a few uses. We only slice cheddar and mozzarella cheese with is not hard at all. There are no replacement wire to be purchased separately either so not I have no choice but to throw this away.

While the cutting board was a nice piece of solid marble, the cutting arm and wire were not very good quality. The cutting wire that had been installed was broken, so I had to install one of the two spares that come with the board. Unfortunately the screw that is supposed to hold the wire tight on the end of the cutting bar was partially stripped, so it will not stay tightened. I can still pull down on it when cutting, so it is usable, but awkward to use.Be warned that the wires are extremely thin and easily breakable. I tried cutting a hard cheese, but the wire was bending so much I knew it would break it I continued. It does cut medium and soft cheeses without any problems.For cleaning, you will need a small brush to get the cheese out of the groove that the wire sits in. For very soft cheeses you will need to soak it in very hot water for a while first, since the wire ends up jamming tiny pieces of cheese into the bottom edges of the groove, which can't be reached by any of the brushes I tried.
