Our story started in the 1960’s in the rainforests of Borneo. One of our co-founders, Thomas McArthur, spent weeks trekking through the jungles carrying out patrols. During these weeks he was not able to bathe or change clothes including his socks and boots and began to think his feet would drop off from the blisters, sores and skin infections. Then something amazing happened. He observed the villagers using papaya to treat all sorts of wounds and skin conditions - and it worked with stunning results. He decided to try papaya on his own sores and infections, and not surprisingly it worked for him also. We learnt that cultures around the world had known about the special properties of papaya for centuries. The ancient Mayans called papaya the “Tree of Life”, in Africa and the Caribbean it’s known as the “Medicine Tree”. They didn’t need to know papaya had high levels of vitamins A, C and E, antioxidants and enzymes to know it worked. After years of research and determined to extract papaya’s natural and powerful properties for wider application, McArthur Natural Products was able to produce a unique papaya extract that enabled us to incorporate very high percentages of this extract into a range of therapeutic and cosmetic products.
