Cozy and warm; will heat larger rooms over time. Great for small areas.
My daughter had a similar unit she purchased from Walmart and it had her kitchen warm and cozy one day. I searched Walmart and although they had units that were similar, they didn't have very good reviews. I purchased this because I have Prime and the weather was changing to cold. I purchased 2, one for living area where my 5 dogs lay and one for the kitchen/dining area which is huge and gets cold. You can place it on the floor or on a table. Unit sits steadily and secure on its base, so placed on a table top is not a safety hazard unless the table is not sturdy. There is not an open or visble (glowing red grill) heating element but it sure puts out heat. It had an indicator light that stays on to let you know it's plugged in until you unplug it. Two knobs, one for adjusting whether you want it to run constantly or intermittently (to keep the room at the same temperature, once it is achieved--it will switch on to run and once the temp is achieved, it shuts off temporarily). One knob sets whether you just want the blower fan running or heater on and at what intensity. Center flip switch controls if you want the unit to oscillate or not. It is a tad noisy when running but that's what the volume controls on stereos and tvs are for, right? One unit will not heat a whole house, however if you have a 9x12 room and it runs until it heats the room up, it will keep the room warm. I can also see it doing a great job as an under the desk heater for legs and feet in a cold work area. It doesn't appear that it would be a fire hazard unless one deliberately puts the unti behind a curtain, tablecloth or puts these fabrics on top of the unit. It does not shut itself off until manually turned off. There also is no warning buzz to let you know something is too close. Used responsibly this unit will do the job and you will be safe.

Works Quickly
The windows in our office building are very drafty-to make matters worse, my window will not close all the way! With windchill temperatures in the negative 20's, IT'S COLD!! Long underwear and wool socks are not quite cutting it. I bought this heater, and though I do have prime I chose to pay extra shipping to get this overnight. It came on time and within a few minutes I was well on my way to warming up my office. However, everyone else in the office is of the same mind and we ended up tripping the switch on the breaker box! Oops. Feeling bummed that I may not be able to use my fantastic heater, I decided to give it another try on low and, boy oh boy, it only took about 5 minutes on low and my office was soooo warm! Turns out I only need low to get the job done. I even let the ladies in our accounting office (which is an interior office with no windows or outside walls) use it to take the chill off their office. Theirs is the biggest office in here and still only took about 5 minutes to warm it up. Because it's so drafty as soon as I turn it off my office gets real cold real quickly. So, once I get my office nice and hot I open my office door and let some of the heat into the hallway. Since I literally just got this yesterday I really can't account for the longevity of it but am sure it will suit my needs just fine.

Second time around...first purchase lasted 3 years
This is the second purchase of this model for me - almost 3 years to the day I ordered my first one. The first heater just recently croaked - fan broke. The heater part still worked and all the other functions, just not the fan (which is a critical component for the hot air flow!) I purchased this model again because it is compact but warm! It heats up a room fairly quickly - depending on the size. In our open living room/dining room on the first floor, the heater doesn't help too much but does raise the temperature a degree or two. In my smaller rooms the heater can raise the temp a good 7-10 degrees quickly. It's pretty quiet too! Overall this is a good option for those who keep the house temp low and just need a little heat in a room or two throughout the day/evening. We have steam radiators so this little heater really helps supplement the heat in our home.

Does the job well
It's a little chilly coming out of the shower on a winter morning and this remedies that. The size is great, fitting nicely between the two sinks on the vanity. It looks good, too, and the handle makes moving it easy. Heats up very fast. I plug it in and immediately it generates heat. The various settings make it versatile and the optional oscillating setting works well directing the heat around the room. I set it on high and oscillating and by the time I step out of the shower, the room is a nice, toasty warm. It's size and portability make it perfect for using it in other areas of the house if needed. It's a nice backup in the event the furnace malfunctions. This will provide warmth and comfort in a room until the furnace is repaired. UPDATE: April 2021. Four years later and it's still running like it did when new. Instant heat, smooth oscillating, fully functioning fan. This was a great purchase. Highly recommend it. UPDATE: I've had this for three years and it is working exactly as it was when new. Highly recommend.

Great little heater!
I’ve been using Lasko heaters for years. They’ve worked with no problem. We just lost 2 of them when our house flooded during Helene. I’ve already bought a replacement to use in our camper while our house is being repaired. I like using them in our bathrooms to take the chill out of the air during a shower. It lets me avoid turning on the whole house heating system just to warm up the bathroom. Oscillating is a nice feature because it seems to distribute the heat more evenly.

So far a great gift! Towards the end of January was my ...
So far a great gift! Towards the end of January was my wife's birthday and I was looking to get her a small portable heater that she could easily transport from one room to the next based on her needs. Larger heaters can be quite bulky and do not make for easy transport. Though larger heaters do put out more heat. However, buying a ceramic heater is on the lower end of heaters available for purchase. There are kerosene heaters and propane heaters that make for heating rooms, garages, etc., almost instantly. However, they are not very practical. This is actually the second Oscillating ceramic fan I have purchase for her birthday. The first was VanHaus version. They are almost identical in the pictures but the Lasko is slightly more. The VanHaus broke on us in a matter of days and if you are interested you can see my critique of it if you are trying to pinch a few pennies. However, I highly recommend the Lasko version. This review is based on the superiority of the Lasko fan vs. the VanHaus version. First, the Lasko came in packaging that did not allow for the fan to break when it is being shipped. I removed the Lasko heater from the box and noticed immediately that I had purchased a better product. It's handle was more firm indicating great craftsmanship. The knobs are clearly marked. The thermostat was clearly marked with white circles. The larger the white circle the hotter the thermostat setting. The VanHaus does not have a clearly marked thermostat. One difference I did notice that puts the VanHaus before the Lasko heater is the Oscillation. The Lasko does not oscillate as wide as the VanHaus. However, after further contemplating this oscillation degree less just might be best. It allows for more of a central focus on an individual vs. heating a small room. A personal heater is exactly what my wife wanted; she did not want a room heater. If someone wants a room heater they should try the larger and more bulky heaters that are left in a room or secured permanently. So far, the Lasko heater is far superior in quality, durability, and craftsmanship. This heater is highly recommended for those looking for a personal heater that is light, durable, and easy to transport.

Got three years out of it before the rotary switch became flaky
Bought this three years ago and used it in a bathroom. It would occasionally trip the overtemp switch if there wasn't enough clearance for good airflow. One day it stopped working and the rotary switch wasn't working smoothly. I disassembled the unit and found that the stranded wires inserted in the switch weren't tinned, so I took care of that. I also cleaned out the lint that was blocking about half of the heat element grid. I did that by taping a short length of Tygon tubing to my vacuum cleaner wand. That allowed me to get between the fan blades and suck it out. I think this should be done every year to reduce fire hazard. The switch is still a little flaky - it's a Tower Mfg unit, but seems cheaply built. The phosphor bronze z-springs serve three purposes: they provide a push connection for the wires, an electrical connection to the fan and the two heater elements, and indexing for the switch. It's tricky to get that all right and cut cost. Reading through all the one star review, it's apparent that most of these can be traced to the rotary switch (or the overtemp snap switch). The rotary switch has four independent contacts to an internal notched plate: line, fan, heatlow, heathigh. If the line contact fails, the unit won't work at all. If the fan contact fails, the unit will overheat. (And melt, if the overtemp doesn't activate) If one of the heat contacts fails, the unit will put out low heat. I located a $13 replacement four position rotary switch on Amazon. If the problem re-occurs, it's about 20 min to change it. Bathroom use: if the heater is cold and you shower, moisture could condense on the heat grid and cause an arc-over because of the close spacing in the design. Simply turn the heater on before you shower and leave it on for a few minutes after you are done. That will help the bath fan pull the moist air out.

Great heater, a little loud
This heater is great. Bought it to replace one that died after a couple of years of heavy use. It heats a room beautifully and has great temp control (Pro Tip, don't use the full blast setting constantly and it will probably last longer than my original one did..) although it is, as some have noted, slightly loud. The "whoosh" of the heater is not a bad sound but you'll definitely hear it. It's not super loud, but maybe if you like to sit at your desk listening to your tiny computer speakers while it's running, you would find this noise overpowering.
