Mr. Osomatsu Season 1 (BD) [Blu-ray]

I LOVE this show!
Osomatsu-san is a very strange, hysterically funny, occasionally-heart-wrenching comedy show composed mainly of short skits. The main characters, a set of unemployed loser sextuplets with too much time on their hands and too little self-discipline, have remarkably complex personalities and are very, very fun to get to know. It takes a while to learn to tell them all apart, but once you've got the hang of it, it adds so many new dimensions to their misadventures. Possibly literally? I dunno, it can be hard to keep track of what's going on and I'm pretty sure the creative team is on drugs. Alternate dimensions are a definite possibility. Anyway, after a rocky start during which I kept asking what the heck I was seeing and why I couldn't look away, I came to love this show very much and I now go through periods of my life where I can't stop watching it. This blu-ray set is pretty great! The English voice actors are fantastic, and though I still prefer the Japanese version, watching the show dubbed for the first time was a really fun experience. Unfortunately, a few parts (like the Dekapan-man skits and the entire pilot episode) are not included, probably due to the copyright claims that were levied against them. Apparently satire isn't entirely safe from the long, spindly arms of the copyright monster. I'd remove a star for the missing material, but ultimately I'm too happy to see this show available on DVD/blu-ray to be overly concerned about something that probably couldn't be helped.

It's a dub for me!!! (Positive)
I was nervous as all heck about the dub, as i had been waiting nearly 3 years for it. However, i really enjoyed it!! It was kinda hard to get used to at first because i was already so accustomed to the japanese voices and the VAs themselves so involved in interviews, but the english VAs proved to be a great fit. Even the comedic side characters (Iyami, Chibita, Dayon and Dekapan) don't sound out of place at all. My favorite line from Chibita was, "I can't believe men are so shallow!". It was such a simple line, but the delivery had me in tears. What's interesting about the dub is that it feels... Very millennial. Which is fitting because that's exactly what the show is about, the Matsunos living as millennials in our present world. But i didn't really think about that when watching the sub, probably because I'm not japanese and therefore am unable to understand all the subtleties and references to jp pop culture. I really like the dub because it gave me something different to take away from this show and I can tell the VAs and writers worked really hard to deliver something that they hoped old and new fans alike would enjoy. I hope we get season 2 and 3 dubbed!!

One of those anime where you do watch the dub
It’s crude at times with the humor, but it’s fantastic and will having you laughing out loud. The only thing missing is the first episode since that one wasn’t dubbed unfortunately.10/10 watch it for an excellent cast!

Subbed before Dub.
Been waiting for this for years!! The English dub is okay but it doesn't do the show justice. They changed too much for my liking, it doesn't feel like the same show to me but it could've been much worse. Also, I feel the English voice actors for the 3 eldest brothers (Oso, Kara, Choro) are unfitting but everyone else is pretty good! Matsuyo's voice actor is amazing! There is some really good line deliveries and I had some really great laughs too. But ultimately, the original Japanese just can't be beat in my opinion (and no, I'm not just saying that because I prefer subbed over dubbed). Don't let my opinion discourage you from supporting the dub though, both versions are good in their own ways and I think both deserve the same amount of appreciation. Love the design of the DVD case too! Excited for the next seasons and the movie! 🤩

Love this quirky show and quirky characters
I discovered this series while flipping through Pluto TV and catching this on the anime channel. The characters and situations are so quirky, especially the efforts and lengths they go to be lazy. It takes work to be this lazy.I was so glad thus came out, as I was looking to get the foreign release of thus series (and hoping there would be English subtitles).I did quibble as to whether I would give the Blu-Ray 4 or 5 stars, though. Why not 5 stars? Because the disc does not include episode 1 of season 1. If you Google this episode, you’ll learn that it got pulled from the foreign Blu-Ray releases and also from streaming services because it had the brothers parodying a number of other anime series, drawing the brothers in those other series’ styles. Unfortunately, Japan doesn’t have the copyright fair use laws that the US has, so without getting licenses to those other popular series, they decided to pull it. 😞 😔 😢

Absolutely hilarious, must watch comedy
6 same faces, completely different personalities, zero job prospects. This series is a must watch that probably doesn’t get as much love as it deserves, if you are on the fence or are looking for a good time, give Mr. Osomatsu a try, you won’t be disappointed. :)

Literally the greatest work of art ever
Yeah, it’s great. Buy it and watch it. Then buy the rest and watch it too. Laugh a whole bunch. I like Ichimatsu best because he has a kitty. Dayon.

Weird Show. But funny.
If you like Epic Team Pop or Cromartie High School comedy, this is right up your block.
