a bonanza of fifties jazz guitar
An excellent and well chosen selection of classic jazz guitar albums from the fifties worth getting. Some important recordings by top jazz guitarists, some of which are tough to find for,a great deal when you consider you are getting 18 albums for around a buck an lp on CD.The Django disc is 1949 electric guitar from 3 10" lp's.There isn't an album here that isn't top notch stuff plus there is a good variety including Charlie Byrds Artistry lp and Luiz Bonf along with Mundell Lowe, Herb Ellis, Howard Roberts, Jim Hall , Rene Thomas,Jimmy Raney. Joe Puma, Tal Farlow, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell,Oscar Moore and Freddie Green . Barney Kessell is listed on the front of the box but there is nothing by him here. The discs are in nicely printed cardboard sleeves in a cardboard box and each album has date , location and personnel of recording along with the track listings.Original album artwork is on the front sleeve and sound is very good but not great. There is no manufacturer identification other than made in the EU by IntenseMedia.DE although I couldn't turn up a web site after a search. The package is very similar to other bargain priced CD collections of Jazz, R+B , R+R and C+W from the Documents and Membran label out of Germany

Great collection
I bought this for my husband’s birthday. He loved it, he said the collection was excellent. The item arrived in perfect condition and the shipping time was very reasonable especially with the distance.

I am amazed by the recording quality
As a guitar player, I am amazed by the recording quality, and number of artists on this collection! A few of these albums contained in the collections are very difficult to find. I doubt there is any other Jazz Guitar collection that is as complete and available as this. And at this price? The best I have seen. Period.

Jazz Guitar? You’ll want this.
Bought this for a jazz guitarist. Just happened that he was on the road when he received it and immediately got to enjoy it. Great CDs and lots of bang for the buck!

The bargain of the year!
I'm impressed.16 jazz guitarists of the 1950s,18 albums ( 3 by Django ) on 10 cds all for a tenner !All in seperate sleeves with the personnel listed plus recording dates and venues.A facsimile of the original album sleeve is also included on the covers. What more could you wish for?The remastering has provided good recording quality, although the Django sides originally recorded in 1947 are a bit iffy but bearable. There are no solo guitar albums in this set and the music is typical of 1950s small group modern jazz with Art Pepper, Bud Shank,Al Cohn,Bill Holman and Bob Brookmeyer included in the personnel listings.I am enjoying these recordings and look forward to volume 2 which is apparently in the pipeline.

Wonderful jazz art
Super value, super classic music all through this set. I particularly wanted the Billy Bauer "Plectrist" album, which is available separately only by spending unfeasible amounts of money. Eighteen LPs included in this set, and at least 8 or 9 of them are absolutely essential. The Wes Montgomery "Incredible Jazz Guitar" album is alone worth the asking price for the set . .. just buy it, listen to it endlessly, and cherish such wonderful jazz art . . .

Sounds Something Similar as Time Goes By.
I was a bit disappointed with this album of different jazz guitarists as they nearly all sounded very similar to each other except Django Reinhardt, even Barney Kessel who normally has a very distinctive sound seemed somewhat samey. I would recommend this album to people who like jazz guitar and who are contemplating playing jazz guitar but I was somewhat disappointed in the saminess of the sounds.

tells me there's a good selection of music across the CD's
A Christmas gift for my Jazz mad Father in Law. He's very impressed with it, tells me there's a good selection of music across the CD's.The CD packaging is well presented, and easy to read, although a little on the small side. There's a lot of music in this collection, most of the CD's have two albums on.A really good value compilation, which made a fantastic gift for a jazz nut.

A great starting point
Amazing value and really good mix of jazz guitar covering all styles. I do already have a few of the albums but it's still worth having for the hard to find ones. Looking forward to volume 2.Thoroughly recommended.
