Is this still "Made in Japan"?

Its made in Indonesia. However, it still outperforms other melodicas...even if you are pressing more than one to five keys, the effort or pressure of air you need to blow remains uniform. Unlike Honer, if you press 3 to 5 keys, you will ran out of air easily.

Does this come with a strap to wear/ carry the instrument? Mindi S.

As most melodicas, it has a small strap on the back so you can hold it with one hand and play with the other, using the smaller mouthpiece (it comes with 2). However, it doesnt strap up like a guitar or saxophone might. At its size, i dont find it difficult to carry around unless im carrying a lot of other things with me. Don't expect to be able to strap up so one could sing while playing this (;

Is the tube for this rigid enough that it stays in position if left alone?

No, it is pretty flexible. If you wanted it to hold a position, you might tape one or more sections of heavy, solid copper wire to it. But even then, there'd be a possibility of it pivoting where it's inserted into the pianica. You might consider using a harmonica holder to keep the mouthpiece positioned near your mouth.
