Lost Girls & Love Hotels

I liked this film a lot and I think it is about a specifically feminine brand of loneliness. The main character's sexuality is a huge part of the plot, as well as her vulnerability as a single female in a huge, foreign city. The danger she is exposed to is heightened by her gender. I think the portrayal of aimlessness, depression, and being a 'lost girl' is atmospheric in the extreme. I also liked the sensitive portrayal of the male lead, and the subtlety as we glimpse snippets of his life that allow the viewer to piece together our own conception of his character.My issue with the film is it felt like a lot was 'missing'. I researched it afterwards and it turned out the film that was released was heavily cut, and somewhere in the unreleased ether is a director's cut that is apparently very different. I would pay money to watch the unedited film, as I feel it would lead to a more seamless viewing experience.At the same time, I think certain things remain mysterious on purpose. E.g.: there is a scene where a character weeps over an object that the viewer can't quite make out. What is it? What is happening? We never find out. There are many of these moments, including ones that raise practical concerns around how a character got their sudden money, and so on.Many reviews mention a continuity error at the end of the film, however this may be not true as the scene in question is filmed in a mirror. So when comparing the two scenes, one in a mirror and one not, something seems the wrong way round, but this may be because it was flipped in the mirror. How do mirrors work? Open to explanations.The film is criticised for its poor pacing, aimlessness, lack of plot, and so on. I think this is a better film than its detractors give it credit for, held together by two magnetic performances. It is only a shame that a director's cut hasn't found its way onto the internet yet.

I don't think this is one for mainstream entertainment, and i dont think there is too much to the story, but i found it oddly captivating. OK on a first watch if you dont mind something a bit different...

Seemed All Round Well Acted; Story Line Held Together For Interesting Film.

An excellent storyline and nicely acted.Story of how easy it would be to lose your self and identity in a foreign country. Thought provoking story

Very Disappointed with this film. Couldn't make head or tail of the story line. Waste of money

Pretty poor really. Alexandra Daddario tries her best but the film is all over the place with characters appearing and disappearing at will. Carice van houten phones in a performance as the cynical wise older charracter but the irritating Scotsman will be familiar to women in student bars the world over

GREAT FILM...

This is a great movie , showing the fun weird different life in Tokyo of a lost American girl and her increasingly out of control life. Its sexy but more thought provoking than date night hot

Reviews are mixed but personally, I enjoyed it because the main character is credible but doesn't portray the typical feminine hero but rather an anti-hero who is searching her way in a confusing environment. It's not a 'woke' feminist movie, but rather the opposite. Japan connoisseurs will also appreciate the non-sentimental portrayal of urban settings.

Loved the female actor in her other movies. This movie was terribly boring And Poorly acted... With a poor script...very DarkTerrible movie.

When it was bought there was no explanation anywhere online or on package that it could be unauthorized to play. What is the reason for this? Please reply. I am way over 18, my age cannot be assumed when ordering.
