Mantra Meditation for Physical Health: A 40-Day Program Using the Power of Sacred Sound

I have been studying mantras for about 6 months now. I have the book "Healing Mantras," 2 other CDs and a 6 CD set "Mantra: Sacred Words of Power," all by Ashley-Farrand. Although there is some repetition from product to product, they are all full of stories, mantras, help with pronunciation and chanting, and discussion of what each mantra is for. Many of the mantras are specific in what they can help you with and others are more general but still, they are all beneficial in some way, whether physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually.At first, I did some mantra practice in a general, undisciplined way and nothing much happened. Then I did the Markandeya Mantra for 40 days to improve my health. It was difficult to keep going with it (at times) as it's a long mantra and chanting it 108 times took me 25-30 minutes each time! Internally I am not sure what may have happened healthwise, I hope to find out in a few weeks when I see my doctor. What it definitely did do is give me the motivation to begin exercising and losing weight again. I am using another mantra to help me continue with that.No matter what religious tradition you practice or even if you don't have any particular spiritual path, mantras can help and they won't interfere with your beliefs. The main idea of mantras is that the sounds themselves have the effects, not the meanings of the sounds.

I somehow got interested in wanting to do a mantra... I am doing the Ganesha mantra and my life is changing quickly... I am upset that I didnt get a book with it. I would have just downloaded the MP3s for about 1/2 price and no CD (clutter) floating around my desk if I had known... I was thinking a book came with it... the info on the CD is good... but I am annoyed that Amazon didnt explain this better. So don't bother with the CD if your more of an iPod kinda person.The author's voice is VERY soothing... one of those put you to sleep voices! I did take some notes while listening to it and that helped. Also writing the mantras out phonetically makes it easier to pronounce as well.I'm giving it 5 stars because the CONTENT is good... BUT Amazon didn't explain the lack of a book with it...

As always, Thomas comes through with these great mantra CDs. This one is excellent again, though I do wish he would have gone into ALL the planets and what parts of the body they rule. It was all very interesting and my favorite of the mantras is the Apadamapa one. This is very helpful in learning mantras for meditation. When I use these meditations, I feel as if I am more centered and on track with life. It is very helpful to understand meanings and uses for these meditations.

Whats the point of listening to someone repeat a mantra 50 times and you still don't understand what they're saying? THere needs to be a pamphlet with the mantra spelled out. I was very very very disappointed. Should have returned it.

The CD contains mantras with explanation how to use them and how they are suppose to work. Each mantra is chanted by the author at least 7 times (7~108) depending on the importance or length of the mantra, I guess)so you can get the feeling and get the pronunciation right. Mantras help me personally to quiet down chattering in my mind.

just like the others. the thing i like the most is the tracks that are strictly mantras and permit you to use the repeat feature on the CD player. sometimes i have the mantra tracks running all day as backgroud music. talk about god having the last word.

this author has many offerings about mantra - this cd, along with his other books and cds, will give a great foundation for mantra practice. Finding a teacher is also important.....
