I'm a big Schlage fan and this deadbolt is the BEST! Amazon only makes it better with a hefty discount! When I was young we had a similar Schlage product but there have been significant improvements since then. The main difference being that the battery life is significantly longer (I haven't changed the battery in over a year). The battery lasts so much longer because the battery is only used to initiate the lock - and you physically twist the key knob to move the deadbolt. Physically twisting the knob gives it a more professional feel. Total install took 20 mins by myself. After installing this for my apartment, my neighbours couldn't help by stop and talk about my deadbolt. I also use an intercom for the front door - so I truly have "keyless entry". 2 of my neighbours now have the same passage lever and deadbolt! This also worked very well when I had tradesmen coming in to do work, I created a temporary code and deleted after they finished. This took all of 2 minutes and was SO EASY! 1 year later, this thing still makes me smile every time I come home. I ended up getting the matching deadbolt and passage lever Schlage B60N505 Deadbolt, Keyed 1 Side, Bright Brass & Schlage F10ACC605 Accent Passage Lever, Bright Brass I'm now looking to sell my place and this adds a professional finish and look before even entering the apartment - a great primer!

I installed two of these and so far so good! Note the battery does not actually turn the deadbolt which makes the design inherently more secure against tampering and greatly extends battery life. Pay close attention to aligning the lock mechanism with the deadbolt to ensure correct operation. Also this lock requires a 2+ inch diameter mounting hole. If enlarging with a hole saw first plug the existing hole with a block of wood to ensure the hole saw runs true and remains centered. Be sure to store the key in a safe place you can access in case the battery dies and locks you out.

Works ok

This is my second time around with this same lock. Installed the first one about 10 years ago and it always worked like a champ. However, over the past several months it started to wear out. Often had to enter the code and turn the bolt several times, and then re-enter the code and turn the bolt some more, and so on, before it would finally catch the lock and open the door. Not a fun exercise, especially in the middle of winter. And this wasn't just a cold-weather problem, it continued to fail even as the temperatures warmed up. Clearly some internal part, maybe a spring or something, had deteriorated. Anyway, it was looking a bit worn after ten years use so I went ahead bought a new one on amazon for a very good price (for way less than what the big-box hardware store was asking). Took about 15 minutes to install. Easy. The new one appears absolutely indentical in every way to the old one, same design, parts etc., so I expect it to last at least as long as the old one. Time will tel!.
