Best. Boots. Ever! Hope this helps you decide on a great choice.
They just came yesterday and I was actually sad when it was time to go to bed and take them off! I'm so eager to break these puppies in for sure. First of all, they came exquisitely packaged, from the box to the tissue paper wrapped around each each shoe separately, even the fitted paper inside of them was perfect. Definitely these boots were packed with care and not a rush job by any means.I wear an 8 1/2 in shoes and opted for an 8 after reading all the reviews here as well as visiting the official Dr. Martens website. It seems sizing down if you're between sizes with average feet is highly recommended. I'm glad I did. I have slightly narrow feet, but these fit me like a dream. It's as if they were handstitched to my specifications! I don't know how they would work with something besides an average foot if perhaps wide, these being so fitted to mine, I'd have to suggest looking into sizing up if you have wide feet, but that's just this narrow footed persons take on it.I like to know what I'm getting myself into, information is power in my book. My pair were imported from Bangladesh, and reading about the history on their site, they used to be made only in England, but they sourced some of the work (not all) to a couple of other countries. I know that at least these are doing right by the Dr. Marten way when they all came specifically from England, they are perfect. You are definitely getting what you pay for!Growing up with uniforms that required good shoes like leather penny loafers, saddle shoes and patent leather mary jane shoes, I knew that they would require some breaking in. They are stiff and sturdy, but that's a good thing from my experience because as you wear them and break them in they mold to you exactly. The bottoms are so dreamy with the Air-Wair bouncy soles! You really do get a cushioned bounce with each step. I'll be wearing them around the house a few weeks (I'd say between 3-5 weeks one can break in a pair to fit so naturally.I got the "Patent Lamper" kind, which is patent leather. From what I know from looking into it for my own benefit, it's leather suede with PU (Poly Urethane) over the top to give it the extra shine. It's not as hard as straight up leather, but it's hard enough. You might need to massage the leather some to help break it in faster, but I'll just wear them in the house until they are more molded to me.If you got the patent leather ones, do expect some "squeaks" when you walk. That's normal and has happened to me with any shoe of the same material in my lifetime. It'll get better over the years (yes, years and years and then some more, these are built to last!).For now, I am wearing a pair of my hubby's big socks which actually fit. like knee highs on me and then push them down after the boot is on to help not chafe around the top of the boot where it sits on my skin. This is just while I'm breaking them in, when they soften a little I do not expect that to be an issue. It was nice to get that tip, plus, in my opinion, it's a cool look with the socks anyway with dresses, skirts, jeans, leggings and daisy dukes even!I'm thankful and consider myself blessed to own these "Docs" and am looking forward to a long time friendship with my boots! Dress them up or down, doesn't matter, they are a classic to last for any age! It's how you feel after all, but expect the compliments for sure. Make the style your own! (While doing it in comfort while you're at it with these boots). I highly recommend these. I will never need another black pair by taking care of scuffs on my own with these and would definitely snag some other colors if I had the funds because these are beyond dreamy and comfortable. A little bouncy cloud to walk on, and I am loving it! I hope this helps you, keep reading all you can about these boots and decide if you're willing to give them a chance. I hope you're as happy as I am with them! :)

Not the same Docs from my childhood
We bought these for my daughter since Doc Martens have made a come back. I remembered how valued they were when I was a kid in the 90s. I had several pairs throughout the years. However, these are very different.Pros:Stitching is still top notchRubber soles still have that Doc lookCons:Not made in EnglandLeather was more like Patent LeatherLaces were poor qualityLack some of the finer details previously seen in vintage DocsAt the end of the day we sent them back. My daughter thought they were uncomfortable. They were not poorly made by any means, but they lacked that Doc magic that made them special back in the day. Maybe I just miss the old days.

Great Boots: Wide Feet Buy 1 size up
Great Boots: Wide Feet Buy 1 size up!Short review: if you have wide feet, and are a man, buy one size up from the recommended size. Wear them around the house for a week. After a week, the leather will break in around the heel and rub/move. Buy a Dr. Scholl's gel insert for work boots, trim to fit, and you have the perfect size boot.Long review: I have wide feet. I take an 8.5 EE, this size fits perfectly in the Timberland Earthkeepers 8.5 EE, but in the Rockport boots I take a 9 E. So shoe sizes vary and I understand that. I'd give the boot five stars, except I now have an expensive mistake. I went with the advice on Doc Marten's own website and the Amazon sizing guide, and bought a UK 8 which is the equivalent to a US 9 Medium. This has worked for me with a number of shoes. A number of reviewers have said the shoe runs "wide." I can only presume they have narrow feet or are women buying the men's style shoe, given that even women with wide feet will have narrower feet than men with wide feet. I've worn the boot too long to return them, in a vain attempt to "break them in." I will just have to sell them elsewhere I guess. On a hunch, I bought a size large (i.e. a UK 9, not a UK 8, which is equivalent to a US 10 Medium). Fit great, until the heel as noted above broke in and the leather around there started rubbing up and down. A quick trip to your favorite Large-Mart superstore and for $10 Dr. Scholls had me covered. Perfect fit.I like boots, with large toes I tend to get movement up and down the heel with a low cut shoe and with a boot you can dial in by lacing the upper part boot movement in the heel to an astonishing degree.Doc Martens are also VERY comfortable once broken in. Yes the Air Ware is old technology, so are V8 Engines, rear wheel transmission (featured on half a million dollar supercars like Bugattis and Ferarris) and other proven stuff. With the Doc Martens alone, absent the gel inserts, I find them at least as comfortable, maybe more so, than the Timberland "anti-fatigue technology."It is important to be clear what Doc Martens are, and where they work well for people. They are essentially a dress work boot for concrete and other hard surfaces. They were originally sold after all to UK factory workers and British Postmen, who love them. The patent leather gives them a dressy look, and polish allows you to keep them clean and neat. If you are on your feet a good part of the day on hard surfaces like me you'll appreciate them.Doc Martens don't have the aggressive tread that works so well in Rockports or Timberlands in ice, snow, mud, and muck. If you are looking for a boot for back-east Mud season, look elsewhere (I live fortunately in Sunny Southern California). Docs do alright in the rain, in getting you in and out of puddle-strewn parking lots. They are not waterproof like some Timberlands and Rockports though. Docs look nicer, are more dressy, and more rock-and-roll than Timberlands, the favorite of rappers and (in one Seinfeld episode), George Costanza. Fashion-wise, yes girls like them a lot, but so does Penn Gillete the magician, who wears them in his Vegas shows.Docs being a dress work boot, have a fully gusseted tongue, unlike most Timberlands and Rockports. I have a pair of Carolina Logger workboots with the same feature. This will press down on the top of your foot until the leather softens up, and is a feature of all good workboots. Which have the gusseted tongue to keep out debris and dirt from the inside of the boot. This is why I suggest for wide feet people, break the Docs in WITHOUT THE GEL INSERT first, and then when the heel starts to move put the gel insert in so the tongue is already broken in and does not press down hard on your foot.I would recommend a thick cotton crew sock. These socks can be found almost anywhere, are cheap, and easy to replace when they inevitably wear out. No need to go with a pricey wool sock. They are easy to wash too.Docs go well in a dress casual environment, and can be in a pinch paired with a suit for a rock-and-roll dressy look, much better than say Timberlands which are strictly jeans/khaki casual.Just remember, if you have wide feet, go one size up from the recommended size.

Wonderful DMs!
This is my first pair of DMs for nearly 40 years! These days, comfort is (nearly!) everything, but I love the stylishness of Dr Martens smooth leather boots. One word of warning to anyone who is buying them for the first time - there is a heavily stitched seam that run across the top of the foot at the bottom of the tongue: it is very stiff on the new boots, and you really must break them in and soften up that seam before wearing them out and about. The best way to do this is to wear one thick pair of socks (or two thin pairs) inside the boots for several evenings around the house. Even if sitting on a chair, flex your feet every which way inside the boots, or get up and boogie for an hour each evening! Then, take off the boots and use the balls of your thumbs inside and outside the seam, to massage and stretch it. It may take a few days, but believe me - it will be worth every second. Once your boots have softened and moulded themselves to the shape of your foot, it will feel like you are wearing slippers! Gorgeous. I wear a UK size 7/EU 41 and the Dr Martens size 7 is perfect for wearing with medium thickness hiking socks.

Perfect platform for hard-to-find items. Delivery was prompt.
It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.
