Getting Started with SQL: A Hands-On Approach for Beginners

A really really good intro to SQL
My son is in college and was having some struggles getting a full understanding of databases. I have all the normal 300 page SQL books, but they are too much reference and not enough “why” for him.Decided to try a more introductory route with this book and it has paid off. It’s well written and easy to understand the concepts.Recommended for anyone starting their database journey.

Good book
Good book to get started with SQL if you are a self-learner not sure where to start. But be prepared that this book has only the very basic stuff.

So simple and easy for the ultimate beginner like me
If you don’t know jack about SQL but want to learn SQL, this book is for you. If you know basic excel formulas (i.e, AVERAGE, SUM, etc.), then you’ll have an easier time catching on to things. Love the layout of the pages. So many white spaces. Makes the pages look clean and less confusing, AND you skip through the pages more quickly with all the extra white face, creating an illusion that you’re reading through this book like nothing. It’s a very thin book but has great content.

Excellent Introduction to SQL
Well-written introduction to SQL. Adding it to my database course, pairing it with that very methodical db design course. Enough here to get everyone started in the Windows environment before setting up a server on Azure for a taste of Linux. One of the best intro books. HOWEVER, the databases (Rexon, et al.) are in a GitHub repository. New users would benefit from some guidance.

Great introductory guide that does not assume any level of proficiency.
Clear constructive text that flows logically to build on each topic. Has examples available for practice, and walks through the set up of a practice environment for your computer. Online examples and practice datasets are accessible with purchase.

Great Introduction
Concise easy to understand introduction to SQLite. Sufficient to guide you through the setting up and use of a first database. It’s strength is also a weakness in that hopefully you will quickly master the material and be looking for more detailed information.

Very easy and hands-on intro to SQL
By easy, I meant I finished this book on the same day I got it. I had some self-taught programming experiences with Java and Python, so this intro level SQL book using the SQLite was quite easy for me. But still, SQL was new to me before I started reading it. So the author did a great job in explaining the differences in different types of SQL platforms such as Oracle, SQlite, and so on. Despite there might be tiny differences in implementing SQL language on a big platform (Oracle) and a small one such as SQLite (which is used in this book), the main structure of the logic and language won't change too much. So, all in all, this is a very easy to read & to use intro SQL book. If you're a veteran in SQL, by all means, skip this one. But if you're a fresh new fish to SQL, this is the one to pick up.
