Great Value
This thing works awesome. My router and modem are in the basement and I have a Cat5e cable running to the 2nd floor of the house to a wall port where there is connected to. Wall jack also has 6 other Ethernet cables coming into it and connect to this witch and Internet is great around the entire house. Connected to Gigabit NIC on PC, my ping is only 1 MS more compared to the PC connected right to my wireless (also Cisco router in the basement.) I trust nothing but Cisco. Cisco switch, modem and router. Great value, no complaints.

Great SOHO switch with lifetime warranty
This unit is perfect for most SOHO and SMB users. No management interface to worry about, QoS, bright link lights, and wall mountable (important for me - the newer version of this switch are desktop only). Plus these models carry a lifetime warranty, thanks to Cisco/Linksys competing with HP Procurve for the SMB market.I haven't seen the issues with port power saving that others have seen, but this is most likely due to a difference in network design.Overall this is my preferred unmanaged switch for home offices and small branch locations.

Heatsink detatched during shipping - Cisco Small Business Support claim pending
Product was DEAD ON ARRIVAL - the heatsink was detached from the processor (apparently a common issue per other reviews) and rattling around inside the unit. I missed Amazon's 30-day return window before I actually opened the box to install the unit, so now have to work through Cisco Small Business Support on the 5-year hardware warranty. They initially claim that by removing the two screws on the case to see what was rattling around inside, I have voided the warranty without even having plugged the thing in (not correct by the way, there is no automatic void by opening the case, but this is often what customer service reps will claim to avoid processing a claim). I will update this review pending Cisco's replacement of the product.UPDATE: After Cisco initially denied the claim as a "destroyed product" for having admitted opening the cover to see what was rattling around, I appealed and a week later the tech replied with a "one time courtesy" approval of the claim. I had to ship the unit back to them at my expense ($10) and they will ship a new one upon receipt. Keeping it at 3 stars for hassle-filled warranty service. Hopefully the new one actually works as expected.

Fast, Cool, and Space Saving
If you are looking for an eight-port switch, look no further. This little switch from Cisco is pretty much everything one could want from a small (by number of ports) switch. I have been using it for almost two months now and have had zero problems. It runs transfer at near its capacity, doesn't produce much heat in the process, and has a small form factor made of high-quality materials (largely metal). I will be looking at this line again when my needs expand in the near future.

Did not work when I first installed it
While this switch now works, when I first powered it on and then plugged some of my devices - the port lights were on, so I figured it was working. But then found that none of the devices connected to it were able to reach the internet. I had to unpower the switch and power it back on - then it started working. There was only this one incident, and since the switch has been working fine for last few months. But this gives me enough doubt that I would not use this switch in an environment where I need high reliability.

works great, stays cooler than older ethernet hubs
Not much to say, it simply works as described. This is an unmanaged switch, in other words, there is no configurable function. The switch simply directs network traffic between the connected devices. To be able to connect your devices to the Internet you also need a cable/DSL modem, and a WiFi/LAN router. The switch itself does not provide DHCP (direct host IP configuration protocol) services, meaning that simply connecting computers and printers to the switch is not enough to achieve connectivity--the devices would have to be configured with fixed IP addresses for a reliable connection. (for example, 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.11, ...)
