Consider the USG60W instead
I eventually had to return this (USG40W) and put in the next (USG60W) greater capacity due to intermittent crashes. I'm pretty sure we were exceeding the number of sessions it could handle, but when it crashes you have to power reset and it wipes the log.

intricate setup and wifi quality
Product: ZYXEL USG40W1. Set up was not intuitive especially when used with site to site vpn.2. vpn kepe dropping every 5 minutes.3. Expert and EZ set ups are completely different systems with one overwriting the configuration of the other. That is, if you use the expert system to configure lan1, you cannot subsequently create lan2 using EZ. It will mess up the lan1. This is not mentioned clearly in the setup instructions.4. WiFi keeps dropping every now and then. Signal strength is not up to par. This could possibly be a problem with my specific device.5. On the plus side, zyxel support was very helpful and helped me through all the hoops.I have worked with cisco and netgear routers and not had any such issue.

Where they excel is the licensing is not as much to renew.
These are OK for the price point. If the price was a little less they would be GREAT!. They don't really compete with sonicwall as they don't filter any ssl/https traffic. They do have MANY nice features but the jury is still out for me as to the full product functionality compared to sonicwall. Where they excel is the licensing is not as much to renew. Not a paid or compensated review.

and you're good. These are a great value for small biz ...
Take a little time to learn the Zyxel setup, and you're good. These are a great value for small biz users. There's LOTS of functions, so I suggest spending the time to research it.

Product - Good Quality, Very Good Security
Purchased the USG for home internet with a static ip. "Easy" setup - easy relative to other security systems I've used such as Cisco 5505. There is a menu/window based selection system with many advanced selection options - example ip address with port assignment. Lots of flexibility. Only issue I have run into is like all units...needs good air circulation. If using on a rack server setup - don't place it directly on a rack server. I put mine on a wire basket on the floor for good air flow.

Great software support, bad product description, bad product
So I have to say right off that I received very fast responses and very clear instructions from the support team at ZyXEL as I was going through set up on this. It took some time but I did get it configured and everything seemed ok. However, it never provided the same speeds as our cheap tp-link router did. The tp-link would give us upload range of 80 to 100mbps and download of 70 to 80mbps (on speedtest.net) the ZyXEL would pretty much be 50/50mbps until that last system patch from ZyXEL.Then we started getting all kinds of crazy results 1/1 mbps on a check then 5 minutes later 15/40mbps but never even back to the 50/50.Now we came into the office today to find no internet. Did a reset on the firewall, 2 hours later it is not running.Don't know if we just got a bad one from the factory or what. Also the detailed product description said this would come with one year UTM, but it does not. It seems they have the wrong detailed description on this specific model.I will never buy ZyXEL again at this point. Maybe support will come though and change my mind, but as it is this thing has cost me about 3x what any other brand would cost me. I bought it, because it looked less expensive than the dell with more functions. However, now in lost productivity from my team and no one year UTM it's much more expensive.UPDATE--We have now been running this firewall for about 9 months. We have an office of 6, so the load on it is not a big one. However, it needs constant restarts and hand holding. This morning I came into the office and again no internet. Tried to connect to Zyxel firewall to see what the problem might be, no response from firewall. I can see the lights flashing and connection signals, but it is dead again. Too many times I have logged into this to see the cpu at close to 100%, to many times I have tried to connect to it and no response. The restart time for it is roughly 5 minutes, I will be dumping this and replacing it with something else.Never will I buy a Zyxel product again. This thing is way under powered from processing memory stand point and is pretty much a waste of money. In case anyone is wondering I am running one patch behind the latest on the firmware for this firewall. Every patch has been about the same response and had the same issues.
