Gustus Vitae Condiments' Italian Black Truffle Sea Salt vs Casina Rossa Truffle and Salt
I fell in love with black truffle sea salt after tasting the Squirrel Italian Black Truffle Almonds at Starbucks. I bought the 2 highest rated ones on Amazon. This one and the Casina Rossa Truffle and Salt by Nicola de Laurentiis. This one wins hands down, it tastes exactly like the almonds I fell in love with so 5 stars for flavor and quality (no "truffle flavor" or "essence").****Only gave it 4 stars because I had to take off a star for poor packaging. The salt is in a plastic back inside the tin. Well, that bag sprung a leak (I assume during shipping) and salt had spilled out into the tin. You can guess what happened when I pulled the bag out of the tin. I'd say I lost about a teaspoon of this precious salt to my kitchen counter. At this price, any waste is too much!****Again, for quality and taste this one is the real deal! Here's my comparison of this (Gustus Vitae's Italian Black Truffle Sea Salt) to the Casina Rossa Truffle and Salt by Nicola de Laurentiis:- Packaging: Casina Rossa wins as it is packaged in a jar with a screw top lid w/ tamper proof sticker seal. No plastic bag, no need to transfer salt, no chance of spills.- Aroma: Casina Rossa wins here too as it is very fragrant once you open the jar. Gustus Vitae's almost has no aroma.- Flavor (the only one that matters): Gustus Vitae all the way. Pure, truffle flavor with nice sized bits of black truffle mixed throughout. Casina Rossa's has a slightly artificial taste and the black bits in it is almost like powder. I am attributing this to the "truffle flavor" listed on their ingredient list.FWIW the ingredient list for Gustus Vitae's salt is: Sea salt, Black Truffle while Casina Rossa's on the LABEL says: Sea Salt, Black Summer Truffle 5%, truffle label. Not sure why their product description omits the "truffle flavor".

Good but not the best
This is a decent truffle infused salt but definitely not the best I have had. The amount of truffle to salt was very disappointing considering the price. To get much discernable truffle flavor YOU end up with very salty food. That said it is tastier than plain salt, just not very strong on the truffle end. There are others that are better for more money so I guess it's a trade off. I will pay $5 more for a better product. I do like the packaging with a built in shaker and pour in the metal lid itself. The magnetic bottom is convenient too, but could be improved with a stronger magnet. I wish the company would double the amount of truffle and increase the price. Truffle lovers would pay more for a better product.

Maybe my batch was bad? I taste nothing
EDIT: it freezes well. The flavor improves, too. But still, nothing to write home about. I keep it in my freezer now, in one of those Rubbermaid Twist-top cups. What I'll do with the magnetized container, I don't know. Original review, follows below.==============Okay, I did get this a few weeks ago, but it isn't supposed to require refrigeration. Finally I had enough spare containers (I don't like metal containers), so I just now, opened what you see in the product description; opened, the cellophane containing the truffle salt; then, poured it into my Tupperware cup (the twistop kind, sold here at Amazon and elsewhere). Followed the instructions and did the pinch-scattering thing several times over a dish I was making (mashed garbanzos, small pieces of personally and freshly-frozen kale, cilantro, basil, mixed with lemon juice, olive oil and some Blue Bonnet) -- nothing. No distinguishing taste. The smell of the salt is sorta like celery salt or Lawry's. Or, like my own 'popcorn salt' (made from oversalting popcorn and actually popping it on the stove with olive oil, to the point of burning, then freeze the leftover salt and unpopped kernels; then pinch-scatter it over fish to get that 'blackened' taste in the microwave).Since I couldn't taste or smell anything special in the truffle salt, I separated out some of the truffle bits and ate them directly. No taste at all. These bits were hard as rocks. So I'm stymied. Rated 3 stars, for benefit of the doubt.

This is REAL truffle salt, not salt plus weird truffle chemical flavoring
A few weeks ago I tried some truffle salt that absolutely blew my socks off. So much truffle taste... but a little weird on the tongue. I did some research and found out that MOST truffle salts are made with 3 ingredients: Salt, a few bits of truffle (so they can say "with real truffles"), and artificial truffle flavoring. Weird, turpentine-like flavorings with such a powerful taste that I'm left thinking, "that can't be right".This truffle salt only has two ingredients: salt, and bits of truffle. It definitely adds a truffle smell and truffle taste. If you've experienced the artificial kind of truffle salt, then the truffle taste in this product may seem underwhelming to you. But do you really want to be putting weird artificial flavoring in your gourmet food? If so, you might as well toss in some MSG and red dye #5...

Buy a different brand
So I was super excited to finally receive this when I opened the envelope I could smell the truffle!! I couldn’t wait to use it. As I continued opening the box it came in I was confused by the color it was dark and didn’t look like the picture was not white salt. In thought maybe it’s because of the black truffle. NO it had a old smell to it and taste like nothing, cant taste truffle can’t even taste a salt flavor!! DISAPPOINTED I’d say try a different brand ! I don’t even no what to use it for because it has no taste to it .. packaging was nice idea though props to that
