IOGEAR USB-C (M) to HDMI (M) 6Ft Cable - 4K 60Hz - Compatible w/Thunderbolt 3 - G2LU3CHD02

While I was a huge fan of this cable, due to its build and apparent quality, it stopped charging after a month, no broken or frayed parts. It just stopped having power run through it, as if a proverbial switch had been flipped. Don't buy this product if you want something that will be reliable or last for years. I don't like leaving reviews like this, but often a cable that is used to charge a phone is critical at times and it is unacceptable to have it just fail after 30 days.

Even though this is primarily a Thunderbolt 3 cable, I bought it for USB C usage. It costs about the same price as the fastest USB C cable from Anker, so why not have Thunderbolt 3 functionality, in case I get Thunderbolt peripheral? My Acer laptop has USB 3 ports as well as Thunderbolt 3. I connected an external SSD mounted in SATA to USB enclosure. The enclosure has ASMedia chipset. Using the USB 3 to USB C cable that came with the enclosure, I got 440 MB/s read and 205 MB/s write. When I connect the external drive with the IOGEAR cable to the Thunderbolt port in the laptop, I get 539 MB/s read and 235 MB/s write. The read speed is about the maximum that SATA interface can support. The write speed is obviously limited by the drive (Sandisk X400). Very happy with this cable, hope it will last.

Tried to connect a Mac laptop and a PC desktop to a USB-C monitor with hub. Didn't work. On the Mac video and power worked, but no keyboard; on the PC (video connected separately with HDMI) it didn't work at all for keyboard, and got a "USB device has malfunctioned" error from Windows. Boo.

Not all USB-C cables are the same! They differ in data speed and in power-carrying capability. And they differ in adherence to standards and the ability to communicate intelligently with the devices you plug them into, in order to maximize performance. This one ticks all the boxes, including the ability to safely and rapidly charge things like the new 15" MacBook Pro, whose 87 Watt charger cannot be accommodated by lesser cables. Most USB-C cables don't measure up, and fewer still disclose all the necessary specifications-- be careful out there!
