Almost the same as the NB 609 Cross Trainer
For many years, I've been a big fan of the New Balance 609 Cross Trainer, a very similar shoe which I believe is made by NB only for one of the big footwear chain stores--a famous one if you take my drift--and not available on Amazom. I bought the 608 on Amazon as a replacement because it was very well priced. Got it today and am very happy with my purchase. The shoe is very similar to the 609 and appears to be manufactured to fit the same. I was very happy with this because the fit was one of the things I really liked about the 609 compared to other NB shoes as well as those made by other manufacturers. The one, minor difference between the 608 and the 609 is that the footbed in the 608 is a bit firmer (less resilient) than the 609. I regard this as a small downside and I suppose some might even find it to be a small advantage. Except for this, I'd give this shoe 5 (or 6!!) stars. The shoe works for me both as a street shoe which I will wear alot on weekends and as a cross trainer I will wear for my workouts at the gym (jogging on a treadmill and also working on an elliptical machine.

Low Quality cost a long-time New Balance customer
I agree with others here over the quality tanking rapidly. I've been wearing the 608's for over a decade now. (size 12 4E) Due to the amount of walking I do, I have the crazy habit of counting the number of months my shoes last. It started out 11-12 months per pair in the 608's, which is great for the punishment I give my feet. Then the 608v2 came out and it dropped to 7-9 months per pair. I've had 2 pairs of the 608v3, with the first pair lasting 6 months. And now the current pair of v3's is in need of replacement after only 3 months. 3 Months! That's ridiculous. And I don't replace my shoes willy-nilly. I literally wear down the sole through the rubber completely, and crush the inner cushioning until it creates deep impressions for my toes and ball of the foot. But this latest pair wore through the inner cushion strait to the sole in only a month, and now the sole is almost gone... in 3 months. No more New Balance for me!

The first pair was wonderful and when they started looking bad
I have had four pair of the MX 608's. The first pair was wonderful and when they started looking bad, I retired them to work shoes around the house. The second pair were also great, but then the 3rd pair arrived - I use the newer ones for functions at our community center so don't wear the better pair all that often. After the 30 days passed after they arrived, I noticed that one of the shoe lace loops had become stitched so I called Amazon and they waived the time frame. I had this pair about 4 months (very little usage - still using the second pair for work shoes), the material on the right shoe by the great toe stitching started separating - now, 8 months after receiving them, the seam has come so badly apart that I can no longer wear them. I contacted Amazon - no help - past the 30 days. I called New Balance - no help - shoes can last only so long. I would like to propose that I send the shoe back at my cost and if their evaluation was that there is a manufacturing defect then they replace the shoes. But after reading some of the reviews, I don't think they will do that - New Balance is having a quality control problem that they are not addressing.

Satisfied Customer
I've been buying New Balance sneakers for three years now. Was buying 623s for a while, then last time I tried out the 409s because they were a little cheaper. Now I'm bumping over to these 608s, again for price. I wear these shoes daily. They're my every day shoes both on and off work. I wear them doing light to medium construction work, like painting or flooring, and throw on the boots when I'm doing heavier stuff like framing or concrete work. Anyway, the first couple pairs of 623s were excellent, lasting 8 months of constant use. But then somehow they seemed to wear out quicker, as tho NB lessened the formula of how they manufacture them. The last two pairs I bought only lasted six months. The 409s blew out quickest of them all. About four months. These 608s seem to be holding up well so far. We'll see how they're doing in six months or so. The way I abuse sneakers, I think a pair every six months is fair. I bought a pair of Nike Air once and only once. The seams blew out in under a month. Since switching to NB, I've been more than happy with both comfort and last and I'll continue buying them. Oddly, the first pair I bought was made in the USA, and that was a big selling point for me. I was boasting to everyone that NBs were manufactured domestically. But since then, I haven't been able to find an American-made pair. Which is truly unfortunate.

Just got through with my daily 40 minute walk. I've been trying to use these new 608v3 off and on for several weeks. For walking these shoes are awful....... just awful. The soles are too thin, arch support non-existent, and I get virtually no ankle support; my ankles start hurting after 15 minutes. I put an older pair of New Balance 475's on for the last half of the walk and the difference was night and day... feet felt just fine. DO NOT BUY THESE SHOES for walking or running. They may be all right for weight training or just lounging but you can spend a little more money and get a much better pair of shoes.I got these because I had a pair of the old 608's (version 1 I guess) and they were wonderful shoes..... used them for all types of exercise for a number of years....... believe me these version 3's are not in the same universe as the old ones. I should have depended on a number of reviews here before I bought them. You'd be better off going down to Walmart and buying some no name imports. WAKE UP NEW BALANCE, you should have left such a successful shoe as the old 608, which was highly rated by EVERYONE alone.

Great fit, slow delivery
As I've very wide feet, it's hard to find shoes that fit well. These fit perfectly, very comfortable and fashionable too. Only downsides are that the colour dulls if you get caught in the rain so best use some protective stuff on them or don't take them out in the rain, and also they are shipped from the USA so took over a month to arrive. Why can't they just sell these in the UK?
