Inexpensive but unusable!
U.S. Robotics 3CXM556 56K Cellular Modem PC Card purchased on 01/16/2012.This pc card is ten years old or more.It was meant to be used in laptops that are even older, those without a modem built in.The two laptops I have are old but have modems built in.My plan was to use this item with my current day cell phone for a mobile connection, however I can't find a cord to connect to my cell phone. My Samsung phone uses an s20 pin socket and needs an s20 pin plug. Most of the cords found on the net are for other brand name phones with a different connector. The modem has two to ways connect, a15 pin socket connection and one labeled XJACK.A dial up connection could be made using the XJACK connector and phone cord with an RJ11 plug on each end.Had I known that I wouldn't be able to find the necessary cell phone cord I probably wouldn't have bought the modem. The hunt to find a cell phone cord is ongoing.

I like it and have used it for two years. Have only used it with a Motorola flip phone. Works okay. A bit slow running mostly at 9600 bps. Wish it would run faster. Seems to be smart and detect phone line quality and adjusts modem speed. I recommend it and will be keeping my current one with my soon to arrive, Dell 7500.
