Falsely Advertised .. Sat list is for Asia
I've used an Openbox S9 for years .. it just died. I ordered this as a plug and play replacement .. ordered on the sixth .. got it today .. the 7th. It is falsely advertised as having been pre-loaded with the Western hemisphere satellite list .. it shows 41 Eastern hemisphere satellites ONLY. If you are a seasoned FTA hobbiest, you know what a PITA it is to enter/edit satellites .. and incredibly daunting for a newbie. It came without batteries for the remote .. no biggie just more false advertising, and the remote pictured .. and shipped, is not a V3 .. which I have here. The remote is long and skinny and can easily be twisted .. creaking sounds. I suspect this may be a dreaded Clone system given the super cheap remote construction, and comes with just the Eastern Hemisphere Satellites Only pre-installed.The supplied manual is in low contrast 6pt type .. black and white .. almost impossible for older eyes. There are numerous full size Color .. and readable copies online in .pdf, but otherwise, I see zero customer support for this Amazon offering, so buyer beware. If you can find a Genuine S9 I highly recommend it .. I got years of service and it was always just left On .. other than when moving the dish, it only consumed 12 watts. When PBS switched to DVB-S2, the S9 didn't miss a beat .. 125west long. I am seriously disappointed that Amazon would vend this product. It is simply .. Not As Advertised.

Openbox S9 Satellite Receiver
This replaced a receiver that cost me four times as much but overheated so badly that I had to send it back twice for service. I finally got a refund but it cost me a 30% restocking fee. (Not from Amazon.) This one works great. After "blind" scanning every satellite within range of my installation, weeding out channels that don't interest me, and setting up Favorites lists for News, Documentaries, etc., the box wasn't even warm to the touch. I put it in "sleep" mode all night and it feels just like my DVD player that was powered off all night. After my first experience, I'm really grateful for this high quality, low cost system.I agree with another reviewer that the setup process can be intimidating, but there are professionals out there who can do this for you. You have to tell it where you are (latitude and longitude), what category of LNB you are using, and what protocol your drive motor supports if you have one. (Actually, this receiver figured that out most of this on its own, if I remember right. My earlier one wasn't that smart!) There are lots of satellites and each one has several transponders. Each transponder has several TV and/or radio stations. Some of these are color bar test patterns, some are no-signal, and some are just not that interesting to me. Setup is a complicated process because FTA Satellite TV is a complex environment.Once it's set up the way you want it, like the man said earlier, it's a pleasure to sit and watch something completely different and out of the ordinary.

locked up after only 3 minutes, no menu access
Ordered this item based on the reviews. Once installed I was working my way though the menu to set up the receiver but then it locked up with a screen message of "Format not supported". That was it, I had it on for maybe 5 minutes. I tried everything to get it to reset, disconnected power etc. Same result, locked up.Can't say I would recommend this item. A few other's set seems to be working fine, but mine was a "DOA" right out of the box. I am going to search for a better quality product. The old saying " you get what you pay for" comes to mind.

Nice receiver for the price
I bought this receiver in order to be able to see HD fta channels with Mpeg-4 and do is job as i expect, at first i had some troubles since only saw all configuration in chinesse, but the seller included a cd and a usb flash to format by usb the receiver and the firmware for otehr languages menu. overall the receivers works fine only see 2 bad things: 1- the receiver need a lot of signal to avoid image freezing, with enough signal works smoothly and 2- you only may use one output at time i mean if you're using HDMI port the composite port has a meesage on screen saying you need pres v format button to be able to see on composite. But i think is a good investement for the price.

Item not what I expected!
I didn't get any instructions with it. I looked up on the internet how to get my dish to work and no help their. I purchased it with other items that was suggested to get me satellite and not working at all. I have it boxed in items that failed to perform. I would not buy another item that is suggested threw amazon under the + + = this is a rip off. Thank Amazon for the suggestion for items that dont work.
