The best way to fix a stuffed animal PERIOD!!!!
Not long ago, I put my small stuffed elephant in the wash with a large blanket. When I removed it from the dryer along with the blanket, I noticed a small tear on its right ear. At first I would attempt to learn how to sew and fix its ear manually, but since I bought it used about a year ago, I wasn’t sure how long the repair would last. Then I remembered seeing Bish’s Tear Mender on a tv shopping channel a few years back and I figured that I would give it a shot. Granted I considered other fabric glues based on product reviews here on Amazon and YouTube reviews but with this product being around almost for 100 years, I figured this would be the best glue for the job. Once I received it, I put a small amount of the tear mender in a small disposable plastic bathroom cup and used a toothpick and a QTip to fix the tear on my elly’s right ear. Overall the product was easy to use and it held strong even 24 hours after initial application. It had a slight smell but not too bad as to open up a window. So about three weeks in, I decided to give my friend another washing. As you can see by the pictures, the tear mender still holds strong even after being put in the washer and dryer on warm and cold water and medium heat to dry. Overall the functionality of this product and the overall hold made it a real winner in my book. Thus if you are looking for a good way to fix your little one’s favorite stuffed toy without using a needle and thread, I highly recommend Tear Mender. It is the best way to fix a stuffed animal and any tears in fabric PERIOD!!!! It definitely does what it says on the bottle!!!!

More than just tear mender
The more I use this product, the more I like it. I have used it to patch several pairs of jeans that were wearing thin, strengthen a buttonhole, give a button rivet some padding, and add a rug to the bottom of a dog bed where the dogs dug through the original bottom and pulled out all the stuffing. The product is just as described, liquid latex. Dab it on, let it penetrate the fabric pieces, and let it dry. The end result is a latex rubber bond that is durable and stretchable. In the dog bed, I used a whole bottle (probably overkill) to seal the rug completely to the sides of the dog bed. The dogs cannot get any purchase on the seam so they have been totally unable to rip it apart. And they have tried repeatedly. The jeans are equally as solid. The one problem I had with the jeans was that I did not allow the glue to dry thoroughly so it managed to penetrate both pieces of fabric as well as another piece where I had thought it dry and threw it against another pair of jeans. I can attest that the glue is every bit as strong as the jean material, and it will not pull apart no matter how much you try. The solution is to let the material dry for about a day to make sure it is 100% dry. I did find that the glue has a definite shelf life no matter how much you think you have closed it. I discovered this when I had not used the glue for a while then found something else that needed gluing. The glue had formed a rubber bladder inside the bottle which I was able to extract by gently pulling it away from the bottle. The inner pocket of glue was still liquid and usable. The bladder was just like a rubber balloon. Not sure how useful this feature will be, but it is there is you need it. This is a great product any time you need to glue two or more permeable objects together, it can also be used to turn a permeable object into an impermeable one by giving the material a light coat. It is durable and flexible and very easy to clean off fingers. I love it.

It works - solid choice
works well - meets expectations. I repaired a belt loop on a pair of jeans, and straps on ice hockey shoulder pads and shin guards. Easy to apply and clean, dries relatively quickly

Great to repair holes in cotton work jeans and shirts
Works great to repair holes or tears in jeans. I like to put the patches on the inside of the jeans as I think it looks a lot better. Turn the pants leg inside out, put wax paper on hidden side of hole to keep glue from going through the hole, cut a patch from other sacrificial jeans, apply glue to patch but keep it away from where the actual hole or tear is by folding the patch in half and applying glue to the half facing you first , unfold and press patch with fingers then fold back the other half and apply glue then unfold again and press with your fingers to smooth the patch flat. Doing it this way makes it easier to avoid putting the glue on the patch right where the hole or tear is. The glue dries quickly. If you want to apply additional glue to the inside of the edges to hold them down be very careful to apply a small amount and spread with a toothpick under the edge. It is easy and it goes through the wash without peeling off. You want to try and avoid having any glue run out through the tear or hole to the outside of the pants because it will create a rubbery stain, Keep the glue between the inside of the pants and the patch and you will have a nice looking mending job. I find the patches to be very durable on cotton material through many wash cycles. It will work for shirts too but with thinner material you need to be more careful that the glue does not soak through to the outside of the shirt so I advise putting the glue on thinner by spreading it with a disposable laytex or nitril rubber glove or plastic squeegee and letting it dry a few seconds before slapping down the patch and pressing in with your fingers. If the patch does start to come up around the edges at some point you can apply more glue. A tip for patching blown out knees. Extend the patch vertically 6 inches above and below the hole. If you make the patch too small after awhile the material will wear out at the edge between the patch and the pants leg and tear there but if you extend the patch further up and down the pant leg there will be less stress on the pant leg material there and less likely to create a new tear. I have been doing this for years and I would say I get on average an additional 50 percent of life out of my jeans before I call it quits. One bottle will patch a lot of jeans so the savings are tremendous. You can also make a patch for the edge of your front pockets where I hang a tape measure that frays the seam there after awhile. You can also patch holes inside your pockets.

Beware of shelve life - like buying milk
I bought this as my other glue was running low, I like the quick cure time they claimed, as most other glues requires 24 hours. It took a few months before I was able to open this glue, still in its original plastic bag, and cut the tip to use it. I had high hope because of all the good reviews, when I shook it, I could feel something solid inside bouncing around. After a good shake, all I got was some thin liquid coming out, which had no bonding ability. I eventually cut the bottle open, and found the product had mostly cured inside the bottle into a big chunk of soft rubber-like material, surrounded by thin liquid. It was pass the return window, so I had to pitch the entire 6-oz bottle. I went on their website to check, they said it is best to use it within one year. Mine was well within that window, so I suspect it might have been old stock that had been on the shelve for some time. Unfortunately, it has no expiration date, so you really don't know what you get. I cannot attest to the good results others got, but I would suggest not to buy this until when you are ready to use it immediately, so you can exchange it if it is old stock. And once you have it open, you should plan to use it up very quickly. I bought the 6-oz bottle, in retrospect, I should have gone with the 2 oz version.

Good product when it isn’t dried up
This company needs to work on sealing their products better. I have ordered recently and gotten 2 that were not sealed well and all dried out. It is very disappointing when you open a brand new bottle and it’s dried out. When it is liquid and not a rubbery solid then it will pretty much permanently keep your jean patches together. It doesn’t look the nicest when it’s dried but it gets the job done and keeps my construction working husband from having to buy new jeans all of the time (when the ones he had might be fine just had a hole in an odd or uncomfortable spot).
