2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Approved
So, I don't write many reviews but I figured I'd throw something together for this one I'm order to help out any fellow JK-ers out there unsure about what system to get. I'm just an individual, I didn't get anything free for review, or anything like that. This thing is awesome. If you're unsure about what to get, but know that you want Nav/Bluetooth/Rear Back Up camera, this is for you. I wanted something that would keep all the functionality and look of the car but had all of the features of modern systems, without losing an arm and a leg on the stereo or the install at a car/audio store. For $700 and no professional install needed this system is perfect. You could go Alpine or Pioneer, etc, but for the extra money in the system and install, (including the hazzle of no plug and play option, I don't think it's worth it.I'm pretty savvy when it comes to car electronics installations, I did a bit of that in college over the summers, but trust me, anyone, and I mean anyone with a 7 mm socket and a screw driver can install this thing. Look up a video on YouTube "Rosen PR-CR1210-US Navigation in 2014 Jeep Wrangler". The guy takes a whooping 5 minutes to complete the process. That's how quick the install will take, well maybe 30 minutes with prep (GPS antennae and bracket), but you get the point. There's the car harness, the AM/FM antennae to disconnect from the old system and reconnect on the new system using the provided interface. Note that the interface they give you has two different hook ups depending on which model car you have. On the Jeep Wrangler is the smallest of the two. They also give you two mounting brackets, again it's the smallest of the two. (Just check when you prep the unit that the holes line up with the one on the old stereo)Disclaimer: This is installed in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited without upgraded Alpine Stereo option and most basic stereo available. According the the Crutchfield site, this is compatible as where the one with upgraded Alpine system is not, as far as I can tell the only difference in plugs would be the sub in the rear cargo.(The different speaker brand for the rest won't make a difference and I don't think the upgraded built in HD include does either). Anyway, not sure how that would affect it, so maybe research that from someone who has that. This system does have sub outs, but maybe you'd have to do some wire splicing, I'm not sure. As a side note, if you're thinking about buying a jeep and getting upgraded sound, you should rethink that, IMHO, I'll explain why below.I wanted to cover the main points of concern that I had when I purchased.Steering wheels control: Awesome. They work, it's not mentioned in the video, but when you connect the harness that goes into the stereo, there's a secondary plug from the harness(brown and much smaller) that goes back on the stereo itself, it's labeled steering wheel control, the only thing is that it looks as though it's coming from the other harness (the one that will be dead due to that it comes with two car harnesses - one for jeep wranglers and one for other Chrysler cars), well, plug it in anyway. To be 100% honest, I'm not sure if this is the reason why it works, but it works for me or at least it's not hurting anything so might as well do it before reassembling everything.Anyway, steering wheel controls work great. Plug and play, no splicing, volume up and down works, when streaming music from phone, you can even hit next song by pressing the center button between up and down volume, it's awesome. The left steering wheel controls manage the radio tuning and with the center button you can navigate between modes (Nav, Radio, Cd, etc.)Finish - It looks like its factory installed, as mentioned, the buttons on the edges are green - they match the wrangler, so its perfect. Friends that saw the car for the first time once it was installed asked me how much it was from factory for the Nav system.System features: GPS - Works well, sometimes it thinks you're getting off on exits when you're not and such, I've been in a few cars w/ factory GPS before (Nissan Pathfinder, Mazda 6s, etc) - I'd say it works on par, if not better. Shows speed limit on screen on almost every road, will give you visual and auditory warnings if you wish about exceeding the speed limit or can be turned off. There's also settings about how far you want turn by turn directions, will show lanes on the highway, how many continue and how many exit. It'll show gas station and other POIs, which is cool. Signal it's strong regularly, (note it comes with an GPS antennae that you need to mount, I put mine in the center dash, there's a little rectangle, looks like it belong there's, stuck it with double sided tape) See video recommended above, I used the same set up to not have to run the cables far and it works great. The start up time is not great though. It's not bad, but not great, one thing I've noticed is that addresses can be imputed while moving on my car anyway, would not recommend it but it works, maybe at low speeds only though. It really isn't that big of a deal to wait the 60-90 seconds it takes to load.Bluetooth: Amazing. One other thing that I was worried is that the iPhone 5s would not the compatible, but it is! As a note, so is my wife's android tablet looking phone, so no worries there. It transmits music only though, no video, although I tried to play with that very little. Once you pair it, the phones will only be recognized automatically and you can tell it which one to pay attention. One thing I noticed though is that even though you can hit play, at least for me and using Spotify, you have to be in the app on the phone, even though the app is running in the background, it will not start playing till then. Not a big deal, you can pick a radio/playlist before hitting play on your unit. As far as calls, you can see log history and phone contacts from the unit's scren when phone is connected, can dial brand new numbers, etc. If someone calls you while driving, it will display and can pick it up. The microphone on the unit is on the front on the top left, it does come with an extra mic to hook to the back and run to the visor, I thought it unnecessary and left it out of my install and I have to say I've been on the other end, wife driving with windows down and can hear her almost perfectly, so I'm even more convinced that it's not needed, but to each his own.DVD/CD player: works well, this feature is restricted by the parking brake in my wrangler (have a 6 Sp Manual), will need to be in park in an automatic. This is probably a good thing although it might annoy some people. The stereo system does have a rear/front setting, where if you connect an av out to monitor in the back, you can set the stereo to do two things (like play radio in the front) play a DVD in the back, at least that's my understanding of it, but I have not tested this theory, so don't quote me. The DVD come In clean, screen is pretty small, but i guess if you were stranded somewhere this might be a good pastime.Rear View Camera: Again, awesome feature. This install took longer than the stereo itself. As the Wrangler comes with no rear view camera standard, you gotta figure out where one is going to go, if you want such a feature. I bought a round camera that sits flush and cut a whole in the bumper over the hitch, under the wheel, to be centered with the car, if the license plate holder were in the middle of the vehicle, I would have opted for one of the ones that cover the top of the license plate. I thought about relocating the plat to over the wheel, but between that kit, the plug for the delete on the plate and the camera that hooks up to the top of the plate it was $100, I got my rounded 170 degree FOV Cam for $17 and it works great, albeit putting a whole in the bumper is a little scary. The rear view comes on when in reverse, picture is okay, I think the camera is the one that actually has the lines built into the image, not the system, anyway, it good enough, mine came with night vision LEDs, there's ton of choices, hook up is universal, so take your pick. There's some other features that I didn't cover. Sirius radio hook up - you need the receiver and antennae, I think it's like $43. I didn't see the need to buy this as I have Spotify and Pandora on my phone, and Sirius costs another $120 a year or something for service, so did not install. Looks straightforward though if you did wish to hook it up. Comes with a cable that plugs into the Sirius receiver (not included). Also, you'd have to run that receiver modules antennae to the windshield too.USB inputs. One front/ one back. The front is covered, looks like a button. The back one is a 3-4 inch cable with the USB female connection. It allows you to hook up an external source, HD or so, I ran an extension from the unit to the glove box, I might buy a small hard drive load it with music and leave it in there later, for now, I figured, if I need to charge an extra phone or go pro, this exit will provide up to .5 mahs and it doesn't hurt anything. As mentioned above, there's vidoe outputs for the rear, if you were inclined to put screen in the headrests, I suppose. There's also another video input in the back, if you wanted to hook up a gaming system/TV or a second camera maybe. The jack in the front also comes with an adapter to turn it from audio only to AV input (Yellow and Red/White cables to 3.5 MM jack). Seems a little much for my open roof Jeep so I just left those things alone.Audio/video settings - Standard settings, volume setting for every mode, that is volume setting for your GPS directions, music volume when entering the car, etc. Has a few backgrounds to chose from for the screen. Has fade, bass, treble, preset equalizer options, etc, etc. Nothing crazy but some decent features. When I installed this, I also added the kicker speaker upgrades for Jeep JK, what a difference in sound, highly recommend. And... As I mentioned above, compared with a friend that got a Sahara '14 version with the upgrade Alpine speakers, even he agreed that the Kickers sound better, more depth and less rattle. We later took his apart, the speakers do not look any better that my stock ones. Again, IMHO.Anyway, hope this helps, bottom line - I wouldn't spend $695 for the UConnect 430 plus $595 for the upgraded speakers plus Bluetooth connectivity for $495 and Sirius Radio for $195 (Total of $2,000) or alternatively (1,895 + 195 on the Sahara) when you can have all those featured and backup camera, better speakers) for under $700 for stereo, $150 speakers, $30 camera and $40+120 for Sirius radio (Total of $1,040). The only thing you will not get, as far as I know doing it this way is, the tire pressure monitoring system, for me that wasn't an issue, but again, it's up to you.

Works great to help me find the trails.
This item has worked great in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Now when i need to meet up with people to go offroading, i can just plug in the address and keep my phone battery charged instead of using the Navigation on it.

Only 3.5 stars for me
Bought this unit for my 2012 Jeep JKU to replace the stock RES unit. I like it but it doesn't support any of the Mopar hardware except the canbus plug and the antenna cable. You loose your ability to use your stock sat radio hardware, UCONNECT functions and the media sense in your console usb. It is true that the steering wheel controls will work but the rear left side buttons have a new configuration. The top and bottom are programmed for fast foward/reverse and the center button now acts a next/seek button; you can "seek" up you can't "seek" down. It has 2 usb ports - one in the front and one in the rear, either one senses my 4th Gen IPOD touch upon vehicle startup. I have to wait for the unit to finish boot up then plug in my IPOD for the auto sense to work thus I just can't leave my IPOD plugged in is the glove box and expect it to work when i want it to. THIS IS A HUGE ANNOYANCE FOR ME. I never had this issue with the stock RES unit.Above is the only issues I have with this unit. I would recommend it to anyone who is not picky about their steering wheel controls and IPOD integration. It has lots of great features and I believe the navigation software is the best I ever seen.

My 2011 Jeep Wrangler installation
After reading the excellent review from JK2013 on Amazon, I began researching the Rosen Car Show Piranha CS-CR1210-US for my 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport. I had the standard factory radio (RES) single CD with steering wheel controls. There are a couple installation videos that Rosen has on YouTube that also helped me with my decision. [...]I wanted something that looked factory, had Sirius/XM, Bluetooth, RDS, hands free phone, backup camera, worked with my steering wheel controls and was easy to install. I also did not want to pay $1000+ for this. This unit fit my needs very well.I ordered it from Sonic Elextronix after calling them with a few questions. I wanted to make sure this was truly plug and play. Sonic had it for $30.00 less then Amazon and I used the $30.00 to get a Metra TE-THC backup camera. My total from Sonic was $697.00. I also picked up the SXV200V1 Sirius XM Connect tuner for $44.00 at Best Buy. UPS delivery from Sonic was 4 days.I spent the better part of an evening and morning for the install. No real problems, I just went real slow and wanted to get it right. Like JK2013 the toughest part was the rear camera install. I ended up putting the camera in the trailer hitch cover because I did not want to remove the bumper. The fit of the head unit is very tight and make sure you don’t pinch or cut any wires trying to get them all pushed up behind the radio.Everything worked fine except the backup camera. My quick splice connector at the back up lights did not work with the very thin backup camera wires. I had to cut the wires and use a butt connector. Then all was fine. The unit works and sounds great and is truly plug and play. It comes with the harness needed for the Sirius XM SXV200V1 and set up was easy. The steering wheel controls, volume, will switch radio presets, scan radio frequencies and let you switch on navigation. For some reason once in navigation, I can’t switch back out, with the steering wheel controls, although I can still change radio presets with the steering wheel controls while navigation is on.My only concern is if I can update maps in the future. The web site Rosen sends you to wants you to download different installation software. My computers are Apple and it looks like their stuff is windows only. I would be interested if someone has successfully updated their software from the web site Navieextras.com.My install is only one day old but so far I am very happy with my purchase. This is a very nice, professional looking do it yourself install for someone who likes to tinker, but is not a professional.
