Q: i weight 165, light frame, what size should i buy?

This is not as advertised, it’s very light weight and does nothing to stop the wind . The nedium will fit you perfect .

Q: The sizing suggests a xxl for me, but i'm concerned that would be too large? i'm 6' 215lbs athletically built with wide shoulders and chest.

I'm 5'-11" and around 185lbs, no belly and I have a Large, which is comfortable. When I bought it during Covid I was 10lbs heavier, with a bigger belly and it was a bit snug..... It is perfect for around a moderately heated NE house and layering for winter outdoor activity. Based on your body description I sense the XL would work. I don't think it is designed to be worn loose.
