Q: Is the volume adjustable/muteable on this alarm clock? Or is the only setting very loud?

Only one setting. To be honest it is cool especially if you love drag racing but in my opinion should be about half the price. Still cool though.

Q: How do I set the alarm? Directions got thrown away by mistake

Yes the back of the clock has two switches on the back .The Bell picture button is the one, you want to used to set the alarm. It is the metal hand on the clock. If you move it , to what ever time you want to set it, the alarm . Then you used the alarm switch to turn it on. Just remember this , if you set it on say 6am and leave it. It will go on at 6pm . So just remember to turn it off at, the time you want it . If not it will go on 12 hours later for a hour, if you do not turn it off. Hope that helps you.
