Want Cooling, but not Air Conditioning? Consider an Evaporative âSwampâ Cooler
I was attracted to consider an evaporative cooler because air conditioning, either central, window, or portable, was determined not practical for our home. I thought of trying an evaporative cooler because I remembered my friend, in the air conditioning business and living in Las Vegas, used one to cool his garage. He told me how much less expensive it was to run than air conditioning.Evaporative coolers work by blowing air around/through water, thus cooling and humidifying the air. The cooling properties last as long as the water remains colder than the air. The good news is you can replace the water and/or ice pack as needed. It should be great for those hot, dry windy days when humidity drops to <12%.A major advantage for us over a portable room air conditioner is that there is no exhaust to deal with. Our only opening bedroom window was also too small for even the smallest window air conditioner.I like the attractive, modern design. The controls are easy to read, as is the remote control. The unit contains includes a removeable, cleanable air filter. Two freezable water containers are included for easy rotation as gradual warming occurs. For maximum cooling use refrigerated water plus frozen water container. The water tank offers easy to access for filling & emptying. There are 3 fan speeds and a timer offering options of 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours. The unit is light weight and easy to move at only 12.4 pounds. Finally, it even oscillates to spread its cooling properties, which can be used with or without using the water element. In other words, you can use it as a fan if thatâs all you need at that time. We were impressed with the quietness of the fan.I believe the filling instructions overly cautious, asking the user to unlock and remove the pump when removing and filling the tank. I find it much easier to pull the tank out partially and fill it by pouring water from a pitcher, eliminating the need to remove the pump altogether.I consider this evaporative cooler an excellent option when an air conditioner is not practical or desired. I purchased the 4-yr extended warranty before seeing the tank design. In retrospect that probably was unnecessary, as leakage appears unlikely due to the position and design of the tank. The company also offered to extend the factory warranty an extra year (to two years) if I registered the cooler.

Less than okay - company wonât respond with any problems or questions
Update below to show reason downgraded from 2 stars to 1 star.We bought this fan for the garage when we work on items in the spring and summer in Tennessee, where is gets hit but not too hot to be in the garage. We would have used a window unit, but our garage does not have one and we use large fans in the garage anyway so we thought letâs upgrade. There is absolutely no difference between this and a regular fan. We have tried the ice packs and ice with this fan and there is absolutely no difference in temperature if you do not fill it with ice. To be honest, we are pretty disappointed for the price and it not making a difference In the temperature. You are paying a lot for a fan that doesnât really feel cold. We do like the look of this much better than a fan and have used it inside our house several times since it doesnât really make a change in temp if you are not in an air conditioned room. The noise level is great as is the remote control. Would I buy this again? No. Does it look better than a fan? Absolutely.Update: we got a coupon with the package to get a $20 gift card with Amazon if you write a review and follow certain steps. We did and followed the steps and have never received anything. Reached out to the company and no response. So good luck if you need a response from the company.

It does exactly what it says it will do
I had this unit for a few weeks now. I purchased it to bring down the temperature of just one room in my house, which faces the hot afternoon sun of So Cal. I do have central A/C, but only that one room gets very hot during the summer. I was hoping this unit would cool the room, as other reviewers have reported, in order to save some energy costs. I was disappointed to find out that it does not even with ice added in the water tank.At first, I thought about giving it a low rating and returning the unit, but then I realized that the manufacturer makes no claim about bringing down the temperature of a room. Only that it is an evaporative cooler. So, here are my impressions after a few weeks of use, in no particular order.* Everything works exactly as described. Read the product features to find out if this is for you.* There is a small water pump at the bottom of the water tank. That is to say, an electric wire runs into the water tank. I assume the design and manufacturing team took proper precautions to prevent any fraying of the wires so that it does not cause a short or an electric shock.* If you live in a humid area of the country, this unit is not for you. It does an amazing job of adding moisture to the air. I thought about returning the unit, but I bought it during the Prime Day sales and there were some other incentives thrown in, so Iâll keep it and use it as a humidifier during the winter when the humidity drops.* It does not bring down the temperature in my hot room, but the airflow it generates is quite pleasant. Donât expect a full blast of air that is generated by a typical 3-blade fan. With the âcoolingâ function turned on, I do feel cooler as long as Iâm sitting in the airflow zone, and it is not the dry blast of air that is generated by a typical 3-blade fan.* The 40° oscillation feature is not very useful. The gray ring rotates slowly left to right, but it really does not direct the air coming out by that much.* It is fairly quiet at the lowest fan level. Highest fan level is too loud to have on when Iâm trying to fall asleep.* It does nothing as an air filter. How do I know? After running this unit almost non-stop for a few weeks, the filter in the back is still clean as day one.* I wish the water tank was larger.* The material used feels cheap. Good news is that it is lighter than it seems, so it is easy to move around. Bad news is that if you drop it, including the remote control, I think it will break. Iâm not planning on doing a drop test.
