Good Helmet Radio
This is a great radio communication device for those motorcycle enthusiasts who wear helmets. It has great range, sound clarity, it allows you to listen to the radio, internet music, and make and receive phone calls as well as talk to your riding partner. The microphone does not pickup wind noise, and when you make a phone call people won't known you're on your motorcycle. It is also waterproof. I have never had a Cardo Unit fail while riding in torrential rain and I have had the G4, G9, Packtalk and Smartpack. DMC is the bomb and blows any bluetooth communicator away in performance. If you are looking for a quality dependable unit, this unit is it. BTW my G4, & G9 still work and are reliable units but they are bluetooth only units and are not as flawless at intercom communications and are more limited in the number of riders on intercom. So if you are looking for a high quality unit with great features and performance and excellent personal customer service Cardo Systems SmartPack is a great unit.

Best Motorcycle Purchase Made to Date
Hands down one of the best motorcycle upgrades I've made to date. These Bluetooth speakers have revitalized my riding experience: Now I can cruise along with my music and never miss a call. Calling quality is excellent as friends and family couldn't even tell I was on my motorcycle. I haven't yet had a chance to try in the intercom system, or take advantage of the water/dust proof capabilities of the Scala, but am confident in its performance. Only con is at high speeds, the wind noise can sometimes overcome the Scala speakers, so wouldn't recommend calling anyone while on the highway.

Works great once you figure out how to connect to the app (instructions below)
These work very well within line of sight. When a rider is around a corner and out of sight, even when fairly close, you can lose connection. Fortunately, reconnecting is seamless and automatic when back in range. Once you turn them on, you just forget about it and start talking. We used them all day long, for 6 days in a row, for a moto tour around Italy. Battery lasted longer than we did each day. Initial setup is tricky because their app for the iPhone is buggy and you have to go through a certain cryptic sequence of steps to get them paired and the app connected, but once you do it connects every time and works seamlessly. I listen to my iphone music and the speakers are just loud enough even with my earplugs in. A little more volume might be useful for those who use denser ear plugs. The sound fidelity is not "Hi-Fi" but it is better than nothing. Voice quality with the intercom is fine and I rarely had trouble understanding my riding partners. With a button press you can activate Siri as well and send text messages hands-free.Adjusting the microphone so that it is pointing directly at your mouth and barely touching it produces loud and clear sound to the other listeners. If the mic is away from your mouth, sound is significantly reduced. The speakers that are included are slightly thicker than I'd like and I can feel them rubbing on my ears in my Scorpion EXO helmet. They do become slightly uncomfortable after a long day wearing. It's a worthwhile tradeoff to me to have the communication. With deeper ear pockets on your helmet it would be fine.I only used the Cardo DMC connection mode, which allows you to seamlessly connect multiple riders and frequency hop between them. This seemed to work great so I didn't use any other modes.I did not use the FM radio, because I listen to music from my phone.FYI, the process to pair with your iphone app:1) install the app2) put device in BT pairing mode3) open Bluetooth on your phone and select the device4) return to the app, it will probably say "not connected"5) delete the app (yes, delete) and re-install it on your phone6) go back to the BT settings on your phone and make sure it is connected7) open the fresh copy of the app and now it should connect to the device.I had the same problem connecting on 3 of my buddies Cardo systems (we all bought them for our trip) so had to do this same process 3 times. Once this silly process is done, it should connect easily and automatically in the future, if you have BT active on your phone.

Save money for a top notch Cardo device
People who wrote bad reviews on this item are incapable to deal with easy technology. This is the deal. If you want a PackTalk Bold, save your money and buy this SmartPack. Just update the firmware. The only difference between the 2 is DMC distance and numbers of motorcycle connections. 3 vs 5 miles and 4 vs 12 bikers. Sound quality is good enough if you install the speakers correctly. Sound quality 8/10. You can decide to buy the JBL speakers later but not really a necessity. Hardware is solid and feels high quality.

Good sound, but we haven’t been more than 1/2 ...
Quick delivery. Had to look up user friendly directions online as user friendly directions are not included. But from reading previous reviews, I was aware of this issue. We primarily use this to communicate between two people on separate motorcycles. Good sound, but we haven’t been more than 1/2 mile apart, so can’t tell you if they work at a further distance. Once you figure out how to use them, they’re easy to use and work wonderfully for what we need.

Bad Sound Quality, Bad Intercom, Just Frustrating...
This device is driving me crazy!!The music is not loud, and also when your phone rings, it rings so low in the helmet, that you can’t hear it. And other times it rings normally. Go figure.I also took a 15 day trip with my wife. We struggled so much with intercom. We tried Bluetooth, we tried DMC mode. Still many times the sound quality deteriorates very much. These devices have become so complicated that they stopped doing the basic tasks they’re supposed to do.The set came with one defective microphone. If I switch one of the microphones on both sets it works. The other one doesn't work at all.The "contact us" page on the cardo systems website doesn't open, and the support page doesn't contain a way to claim a replacement microphone.Very frustrating!

Makes Hand Signals Obsolete
Received the units and installed as directed. Also signed up to the Cardo Community to register the units, upgrade the firmware and adjust the settings. Downloaded the (older) Cardo app on our phones. So my buddy and I could now talk as we each road our bikes for a 3 week ride. However, within 1 day, my unit stopped streaming music, FM radio and the spoken status announcements didn't function. We had a laptop so each night tried to connect and adjust the unit, downgrade and upgrade the firmware yet my unit would not stream music via Bluetooth despite being able to control my mobile device's music player. NOTE: Never any issues with connecting with DMC. Communication worked flawlessly there. Eventually contacted Cardo and was assisted by Brian. I replacement unit was sent upon proof of return of my defective unit. Replacement arrived and was tested. All functions and features worked flawlessly. So thanks Cardo for replacing the defective unit. It's a great system to communicate and listen to music while riding. Good thing.
