It Works!!!
I'm no longer able to bend down or get down on my knees so this has been wonderful to use. So far it's holding up well and seems very sturdy. You get better using it as you get used to handling it and get into a rhythm. This has saved me a LOT of vinegar weed killer and I've cut way down on the "sand spurs" in my Florida lawn.Since I'm using it in soft Florida sand, it's easy. But, if I were back in SC I wouldn't try to use it in hard, dry, packed clay; I'd wait until after a rain when the clay would soften up. Also, trying to use it in my flower beds that have a lot of river rock and pebbles was not successful. In almost any other soil conditions, I don't see why there would be any problems.I almost didn't buy it due to some of the bad reviews but I'm certain now that most of them are simply not using it properly. The video of the woman holding it in front of the camera, showing that it does work as intended, while she claims it's backwards, made me chuckle. You have to be intelligent enough to follow the instructions, learn how by watching videos of it in use, or just figure it out.

Well made product that does what it's advertised to do
I have two knee replacements and can no longer kneel to pull out weeds. This weeder is the perfect solution; it does a great job and is easy to use. The prong at the bottom grabs and holds the weed while the lever at the top releases it into your basket, trug, etc., all without kneeling or bending. It also appears well made. I would have given it five stars but weeds with very large root systems do not fit in the prongs and weeds with very small root systems may slip out of the prongs. However, it works well for the majority of weeds and crabgrass found in the average garden. I have only used this in my flower beds and my guess is that it would not be efficient for weeds and crabgrass growing in lawns.

Awesome.
I searched for a while comparing other items. Almost bought grandpa‘s until I read that it doesn’t pick up the small stuff too well. So I went with this one. It’s very very sturdy and well-made. I put it directly over the center of the root, stepped on it , tilted it to the right and pulled up the weed very easily. It works super well on crabgrass and dandelions and a bunch of others that I’ve tried so far. I found that once you step straight down tilt it a tiny bit left and then go right before pulling the weed out with a tiny twist. It helps a lot.I also found that pulling the weeds when the dirt is dry is the best. I’ve done both and I thought that maybe they would slip out easier after it rained but instead the clumps would stick to the bottom sometimes. So it does work best with dry ground. You can always spray the bottom with some WD-40, like all garden tools, and nothing will stick to it.Depending on the size of the weed you pull out there might be a little hole left in the ground but that’s no big deal to me. It will either fill itself in over time or I can go back and fill it with no problem. I’d much rather have a couple little holes than the crabgrass that was out of control.I love this thing. No more backaches.

Doing great so far
Works well so far and is very easy to use. I was concerned about the review with the broken claw on the weeder but seems well made and am glad there are no plastic parts on this. The spring to eject the weeds is super easy on the hands. My aunt had a weeder we used at her house when we were kids and the mechanism to eject the weeds was so hard it required you to slam your palm into it, so that one was way worse than this product.Pulled up several huge dandelions so far. It does leave quite a hole in the yard sometimes, depending on the weed, also maybe the bulky-like claw. Maybe a 1 square inch hole for the weeder head and more if the weed pulls up dirt around itUPDATED RATING:Part of claw broke off like another reviewer mentioned. Have only lightly used for 1-2 months. Doesn't even seem like real metal where it broke, more like a cast resin with metal powder in it. Very poorly made, wish was made better so would have continued working well

Not quite the garden weasel
I have a really large yard of crab grass I sprayed and wanted a tool to help me remove clumps quickly. I bought the garden weasel for $24.00 at Lowes, and also ordered the Butler on Amazon. My kids love both, but they fight over the garden weasel for it is better at pulling out the tough weeds. The Butler is good, but it is not a 'twist' type design like the weasel, and though it works well on regular weeds, deep thick weeds like crab grass are much easier to remove with the twist version weasel. The butler construction is top notch. It is much sturdier than the garden weasel which has a hollow shaft. The butler seems to be almost solid steel, and I am sure will take a beating and be fine. The weasel might not last up as well.It is a good tool, but probably should be priced a bit below the weasel for it doesn't accomplish as much. I do like this tool better for gentle weeding in a garden where the ground is loose. It is great where you can just stick it in the ground and step on the handle that releases the weeds. I also like the heavy feel of the tool when you use it. The weed release mechanism is also a bit nicer than the garden weasel. It is a bit smoother. I got the fat part of my inner palm stuck in the garden weasel the first time I used it and got a wicked blood blister from it.I would say 3/5. A few design changes that allow better grip of weeds and a twist removal would quickly move my review stars up.Construction Quality: 5 starsDurability: 5 stars (I have only had it a couple months but put it through some paces already-no issues at all)Design: 3 stars-I like the lift and tip weed function but only for shallow, easier to pull weeds, I would prefer a twist and screw version to this version next timeWould I recommend: 3 stars-I would have a hard time recommending this over the garden weasel at the same price point

Well built but does not perform well pulling weeds.
This product is a well built device but is not well designed to "pull" weeds. In fact, I would estimate that only 10-20% of the weeds are actually pulled out of the ground by the tool. The problem is there is a set of prongs at ground level to grip the weed but nothing to control the opening and closing of the prongs. The tool instructions recommend turning the tool once in the ground however, gravity ensures a lot of the weed either stays in the ground or pulls only a portion of the weed.It has a trigger feature to push the weed out of the teeth when the weed has been pulled. For a pricey above average weed puller this make was a big disappointment!
