The Real Deal.
Well, I think I'm just echoing what everyone else has said, but I think I can add a few tidbits. The sound quality is excellent. I think to get anything better you'd have to go up to a $200+ set of headphones. They sound MUCH better than a typical $30-$40 pair of earbuds.Know what you are buying. These are studio monitor headphones. They wrap around your ears and isolate you so that you ONLY hear what you're playing through them. You will not hear anything else in the room, especially if you have them up loud. You will not hear your noisy cubemates. You will not hear your spouse lying next to you (nor will they hear the movie you're watching on your laptop, cranked up to 11).They've got a really long coiled cord. It feels pretty solid, and so do the connections. These are extremely comfortable. Padded in all the right places. Cheaper headphones that have hard plastic that rests on your head will start to hurt my head after an hour. I could wear these for allll day. Easy to adjust, too.The earpads will give out after about 4 years of normal use. Luckily you can order new earpads pretty cheaply. If you google for these you'll easily find them for about $12. If you google a little harder you can find them from overseas for $4, that way you can order two sets. Suntek.I've had these for 5 years now, use them at work so they have quite a few hours on them. Outside of replacing the earpads, they're still going strong. If something did go wrong with them, I'd buy the exact same set with no hesitation.Come on, if you spend more than 30 minutes a day listening to music, these are the perfect investment. You're worth it.

Good comfort, sound -- falls apart later
I've had these headphones for a couple of years now. They sound great and are VERY comfortable, with a silky-smooth earcup lining that means you can wear them for hours.UNFORTUNATELY, that same, comfortable lining soon began to crack, and is now flaking off in pieces about the size of a dime. The headphones still sound good, are still comfortable, but quite a bit of thin, black plastic came off before I noticed the problem. Walking around with stuff like that stuck to the side of your head is not a fashion statement. Is is not sun-induced, as I use them only indoors. I think it may be some kind of fatigue from putting them on and taking them off. So far, it's only happened to the right earcup. The left remains intact.Maybe I just have very caustic skin oils, on one side of my head? I think not.I really liked these headphones soon after I bought them, but now that this has happened I just can't recommend them.

Just bought my SECOND pair...
I bought my first set of Sony MDR-V600 headphones over twelve years ago, when I first bought my stereo. They were to replace my horrid GE headphones that had mediocre sound quality and had pads that actually hurt my ears. I was pleasantly surprised to find out these headphones were superior in every way.The sound quality is superb. The soft foam pads on the headphones are comfortable to wear for long periods of listening. The outside sound cancellation was quite good. The 1/4 inch stereo jack could be unscrewed to reveal a mini-jack that will fit portable CD players and MP-3 players. The headphones were build quite solidly, and could collapse into a neat little package that fit into the supplied drawstring bag. I had one girlfriend who once said these headphones made you "feel as if you were part of the music", which is about the best description you can ever give to a set of headphones.THAT was a three star set, though. Some things I didn't like about them were a) the foam cups seemed to be painted with a cheap vinyl coating, which wore off extremely easily and practically melted off in a heat wave, becoming a sticky tar that rubbed off on anything that got near it (yuck!). Also, b) if you're wearing them while sitting barefoot on a carpeted floor, you could actually get a static shock in your ears! Now, twelve years later, after being borrowed by three roommates and a number of girlfriends, the coating on the earpieces has almost completely worn off and the foam lining is all split, making the headphones really gross looking...but they still deliver the same sound quality as they did when I first bought them. THAT was the deciding factor in buying a second set, not to mention, the hope that Sony will have corrected the cheapo vinyl coating and static shock problems after twelve years. I haven't been shocked yet with the new set so they must have fixed whatever that issue was. This is what earned it a fourth star. I'll come back and give it a fifth star if the vinyl coating turns out to be more durable, too.All in all, you won't be disappointed with the quality of this headset. They've been around for over twelve years, so that should tell you something.

Great sound and hard wearing
I bought these headphones nearly 4 years ago (3 years and 11 months) and they have only just started to show there age.The sound quality is great, much better then similarly priced headsets (probably better ones out now) and the large comfy cups offer a good deal of sound reduction.I've only used these for gaming, the odd mp3 and streaming and I'm not an audiophile so I can't give a in-depth review in terms of the sound quality, but for the average users they are more then enough.

Excellent
This is my second pair of MDRV600's. The first pair i bought in 2000 and they are still working fine although the thin cover material went after a couple of years. I bought a new pair as a bit of insurance in case they stop making them.Bass is great. Comfortable to wear (and get more so with time - the new ones not as comfy as the old pair as they clamp on your head a little more forcefully (because of new springs i guess) And great at blocking out other sounds.

Presque parfait
Dommage.Ceci dit, cela reste un beau produit à l'excellent rapport qualité/prix.

Great set for every day use with good build and sound quality,
I have had this set for over a year now. They are really very good.Pros: Very comfy while wearing, light weight. Good value for money. I love the idea how they made the cable of this set. Like the old telephones. At first I was hesitant before buying because I walk a lot and thought it would not stretch fast enough and pull my laptop to the ground, but the cable is great. Gives you like three meters of moving space. I could watch movies lying in bed while the PC screen is meters away. I used to have another Sony set which also came with a 3 meters cable but just one straight cable, I always used to trip while walking and listening to music. Those are just great.Cons: I don't think it is related to the set themselves, but many times while I walk, this static electricity just gives me a shot in the ears sometimes. Sound quality is very good (for movies and games), but not as much for classical music (orchestras, piano or operas).Would definitely recommend.
