Very good mower but instruction manual useless
Needed a new mower at very short notice to replace a 14 year old Hayter which had given excellent service. At my age I’m not looking for long term use, weight, ease of use and self propelled were my criteria plus of course cost. The SP41 came out best buy on that criteria and reviews here and on YouTube. Ordered Wednesday and delivered next day, exceptional service from the delivery man who carried it into my shed for subsequent assembly. The instruction manual with the mower is almost useless, without the YouTube videos I’d have struggled to fit the grass collector together. However, Iwith prior knowledge it was easy and was accomplished in less than an hour which at 76 years old I reckon wasn’t too bad. It started first pull and off I went, my first experience of a self propelled mower and what a revelation. Why have I struggled with a pusher for all these years. I cut my sizeable garden in half the time my old pusher Hayter managed and to a very good standard. It’s only been used once but if it continues at this rate I’m a very happy chappie with my SP41. I’d recommend it.

Lightweight mower and easy to start
A lightweight mower, I bought this on the strength off good reviews, have used it once and it did what I wanted, easy to ,assemble,( only the collector bag took me a few minutes to work out how to put together) put oil in and petrol and it was as asy to start as the reviews said , All in all very happy with this mower, and would recommend it.

Could do with clearer instructions but great once set up.
Upon unboxing I found the instructions to be a little vague but fortunately being very mechanically minded I was able to assemble the grass collector and lawnmower handle in pretty good time. Once assembled, the mower required engine oil and petrol which I already had to hand so I filled to the required level. Being too mechanically minded I was looking for the primer to bleed the air from the fuel system but alas this mower does not have one so into the garden we went. Given that it was fresh out of the box the engine fired on the second pull of the starting cord and away I went attacking the slightly overgrown grass since my previous mower gave up the ghost. The auto drive pulls the mower along at a nice steady pace ensuring a decent cut on first pass. The grass collector filled very quickly and did not clog up on the chute between the mower and the collector as it did with my previous model. My only gripe if you could call it a gripe was the cut height adjusters. They are a little flimsy and I would have preferred a good solid steel handle to to adjust the cut height rather than having to adjust 3 of the wheels separately as the rear lifts both sides at the same time and the front wheel heights are operated separately.. As far as value for money goes I think it is a good value product given the Mountfield brand and the quality of finish that the mower leaves to the lawn.

Disappointing Purchase
I have had 3 Mountfield mowers in the past and they have been fantastic. However, since purchasing this particular model in November 2025 I have had numerous problems. The fuel pipe split in April and the mower completely broke down. My husband replaced it. Then the drive belt came off in May - he followed a YouTube video and was able to put back on. A few weeks later the belt came off again. Most recently, in June, the accelerator cable snapped - again he had to order parts to fix. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Mountfield SP41 Lawnmower
Looks the part, assembly is quite simple although the manual is a bit hard to interpret and a one person job and takes about 10-15 minutes to assemble. The grass collection is amazing and quick on it. The quality is top class and the cutting heights are great. The size is average on it. The noise level is a bit loud but can’t complain due the amazing quality of this self propelled lawnmower.

Perfect to use even if you feel lazy you.
Over the years, I have used my husband’s old lawn mower. He collected 10 of those and not one of them I’m comfortable using. Half an acre to mow for 15 years more or less, it was a struggle. And this bad boy recommended by a neighbour, phew, I am extremely happy that I put my foot down to chose and buy my own lawn mower. It’s enjoyable to mow the lawn now rather than moaning all the time. It’s light to use, cuts long grass like a monster, easy to clean.
