Heininger 1290 DestinationGear Classic Wood Black 9' Market Umbrella

I purchased this umbrella in March 2019, so it's been well over a year since I got it. I mainly got it because I wanted a white canopy and the price was great! I took a gamble and bought the 'used" one at half the price. This umbrella has been outside every single day since I got it. It has been through rain, heat, wind and few from almost daily marine layer. It has fallen over a few times because we forgot to close it on real windy days. It has held up fantastic and still looks clean and crisp. I would definitely buy this umbrella again. ;)

Very happy with product. It replaces a square 6.5ft unit with 4 ribs I had in a fixed base where the 1 3/8" pole snapped and NO replacement pole available.. This one is 1 1/2" with 8 ribs, so it's a bit sturdier, I hope. :) The biggest differences between this one and the "other" are the canopy frabic and upper and lower runner hubs. Fabric is typical patio umbrella type; light, smooth and water repellent, while the "other" was a coarse weave and heavier, like a Sunbrella fabric. Note, I have two other typical fabric umbrellas and they're doing just fine after 4+ years outside during the Summer. The upper and lower runners are a resin type material colored closely to the wood pole and wood ribs while the "other" was wood. I'm glad it is resin since the lower runner on the "other" started splitting and I had to create a makeshift band to keep it from splitting further. This umbrella has a pulley to help raise the canopy while the "other" didn't, all my others have a crank. Didn't realize how much the pulley made it easier over the straight pushup and pin, a definite plus. Please don't take this review as a knock against the "other". I used "other" since they are generally rated in the top 10 and I do not want to in any way, shape or form appear to knock them. They make an excellent product and it was the first Patio/Pool Umbrella that I ever purchased to meet a "design theme" for the backyard. ;) Just a simple compare of features from a owner of both for this new umbrella that maintains that wood "design theme" where it is located. Lastly, will this umbrella stand the "test of time" like the "other" did for 6+ yrs? Don't know, but willing to gamble at 40% of the "other" price 6+ years ago. Hope this helped.

What A Deal!First of all, these Wood/Composite Types of 'Market Umbrella's' in 9 Foot and larger, are impossible to find on the Big Island of Hawaii.Local home improvement stores "may" bring them in once in a while, but not consistent. They do sell a ton of Metal (Aluminum, Metal Alloy's) & Poly-Plastic models, but like low-grade Stainless Steel in Hawaii, they all corrode and fall apart within months.The combination of a UV Score of 14/15 + close to the Ocean's corrosive mist and spray, everything here starts "decaying" immediately after removing the item from the New box, from Toaster's to Porch lights to the Rim's on your car or pickup.We were happy to have located this item on AMZ, so to replace the current one which lasted 4 good, solid years, and the only reason we replaced it is because the Canopy got a small tear, that started getting larger. We Saved the Frame, as it is still in great shape and will use it as a Back-up, and buy a new canopy for it.Highlights + Comments + Recommendations - Made in China.* 9-Foot market umbrella with polyester cover. The canopy feels thicker than some of the other models we have purchased before.Recommendation - the Ball Cap is "unfinished", so I painted it with a cool, metallic enamel.* The Pulley system appears to be manufactured of a sturdy injection mold plastic (pulley & ring lift).Recommendation - I always replace the small diameter Pulley Cord, with a colorful weather-resistent Paracord. It makes a huge difference.I keep the original cord for other uses, FYI.* A Hardwood eucalyptus frame & Ribs. Looks Great!* Wind vent - this helps in strong wind situations, by not allowing the canopy to get lifted, and/or, ripped.* Canopy cover colors - a very nice variety, and we love this LIME Color, as it's the best choice between a White / Beige and a darker color.Recommendation 1 - we choose the Color by the Umbrella's Location & Sun Exposure. Light Colors work best in area's where the umbrella is in high Sun exposure. Dark colors usually don't do well with high Sun exposure locations. Shades of RED fit somewhere in-between. RED is also one of our favorites.Recommendation 2 - the company 3M, Dupont and others also offer a Water-Resistant / UV Protection Spray that you may use accordingly.* Price point - excellent for what you are getting, so don't Whine over $65 bucks.BTW, in Hawaii, $65 bucks buys one Happy Meal, Per Person.Caveat - If you happen to live in one of the North/South Longitudes (10, 15, 20 degree) near the Equator, you should expect no more than 2 to 4 years of service for any patio/market umbrellas. Well made, nice wooden construction, easy to unfold using the supplied pulley system. Best of all I found solar lights that fit perfectly on it. The "Yescom 40 LED Solar String Light Cool White for 8-Rib 8 ft 9 ft Wooden Outdoor Patio Umbrella with Plastic Clips" is just the right size and can easily be installed on the umbrella. You will need an M6 (metric) bolt about 2 cm long to secure the solar collector to the top of the umbrella in place of the spherical wooden ornament supplied with the umbrella.
