Friends:First and formost - It Works, no if ands or buts. Like any self mulching tractor, you must go slow in long grass to properly mulch it and leave no deposits. Installation: Super easy, less than 2 minutes for the cover itself. I brought this up because I did see other reviews that felt otherwise. The blades on your tractor are in fact identical, so I put the new ones on the shelf as a back up.SAFETY ISSUE: Please let me advise you of in my opinion an important safety issue. I was lucky, I did not get hurt at all but I could see how one might so let me post this for your benefit. The cover is made of a plastic material, unlike the metal cover on the right side. I was cutting and accidentally ran into a small boulder bordering one of my garden beds. The speed and mass of the tractor against the rock caused the cover to flex, hitting the spinning blade just inside it. The blade obliterated a portion of the side of the cover, leaving a hole larger than my fist. Well the good news is that the grass cuttings quickly plug the hole, so it is usable until I recieve replacement, but folks this scared the hell out of me. The sturdy plastic cover gives me the illusion of safety - that is NOT TRUE. The spinning blades can eat right through that plastic in a fraction of a second if they come in contact. I didn't expect this and shame on me, I might even have put weight on it without thinking before I saw this incident. I still think highly of this product, it is great, and I just ordered a replacement. I will treat that area of the tractor differently now that I saw what can happen. I hope this story can help prevent any injuries with you and your family. I guess the moral is this is a piece of plastic - treat it like one.For those unfamiliar with the tractor, perhaps buying a gift for others, I will acknowledge what I see as safety interlocks. The tractor shuts off if you leave the seat with the blades engaged. In my opinion it is a good safe tractor, just be aware of what happened to me to increase the safety margin for you and your loved ones.

Purchased this kit for my Craftsman LT1000 38in lawn tractor after some investigation as to exactly who built my lawn tractor. Showed up sooner than expected! Install was easy, and good thing the kit comes with new blades! The original blades on the tractor were done! Be sure to thoroughly clean the deck in the area where the shield will go to ensure a tight seal of the opening.

My only complaint is that there were no instructions. It's not self-evident where the little curly-spring-with-hooks are supposed to attach. In at least one case, there were two options for where to hook the spring-end on the deck, and both seemed equally ackward. I chose the further attachment point to put more pressure on the plug from the spring. It works well, but it really doesn't look right. I did not install the blades as others have pointed out that the standard blades that come with the tractor are mulchers. This appears to be true as the grass is nicely cut up finely and falls into the lawn out of sight even when mowing pretty tall spring grass. So, I have my next set of blades on the shelf for when the current ones get too messed up to sharpen.

It works but not perfect. There is a slot opening on top of it that need to be covered with a piece of tape otherwise cut grass is all over one's leg and all over the mower. Once you block that, problem solved. My other beef is why do they make you pay for an extra set of blade if you don't really need it? There nothing special about the blade in the kit, it's a regular standard blade. Other than that it's OK.

The Mulch Kit plug fit perfectly! No problems at all ! I didn't install the new blades because they looked identical to the ones that came with the mower. I'll rotate them when I need to sharpen the blades, that way I will always have sharp blades ready to go.When the leaves are heavy, I do have to go over them 2 or 3 times to get them really ground up, but that is a lot easier than raking and bagging!!!!!
