Great for basic communication
I purchased these for my home as my kids have selective hearing and it doesn't help that it is genuinely difficult to hear from downstairs. So I purchased these in an attempt to save my voice box and stress levels. Oh boy! These are better than I thought cos you can set them up as monitor functions and listen in on the kids activities which at times can both be hilarious and troubling! I never realised my kids talk to themselves as much as they do! I honestly thought they were on the phone with their friends!Anyway, long story short, kids hate them. I love them. Only downfall is the sound isn't fantastic on them. You can make out what is being said but it took time because the kids had a habit of talking a centimetre away from the mic which muffles an already not so fantastic sound.

Walkie talkie sound
These work - with a couple of issues.First, the sound quality is pretty bad, there's no compression on the mic or output, with the result that speech is either very faint or loud and distorted, with not much gradient between. Don't expect Google Home or Alexa sound quality.Secondly, you set each station's number by long pressing the number you want - the station then shows that number permanently. However, to broadcast to a specific station you have to short press the number you want to broadcast to first, then press 'talk' - that number will stay selected for a short time but will then flash before returning to the number of the base station, so it's no longer clear which station you'd be broadcasting to if you press 'talk' again. If you're mainly talking to one station it becomes a pain to have to remember to keep pressing that station number. Those are the sacrifices you make for the cheap price, but having said all that they're still perfectly usable.
