Fabulous audiobook and read!
Loved this audiobook version of A Fall from Grace by Jennie Goutet. The narrator was especially good and did a fabulous job bringing each of the characters to life.I loved the premise of the story. A young gentlewoman whose father died leaving the family in disgrace is now the companion to a wealthy dowager. As she travels to her new assignment, her carriage breaks down and she ends up seeking help on the doorstep of Sir Lucius Clavering.Having just escaped one near entrapment, Sir Lucius thinks this is just another woman trying to trap him into marriage. However, once he realizes Selena is telling the truth about her circumstances, he offers to deliver her to destination. Surprisingly taken with the soon to be companion of his neighbor, Lucius fears his gruff treatment at their first meeting might have hurt his chances with her.Lady Harrowden is not an easy woman to please, and with the arrival of her nephew and ward, Selena’s hands are full trying to deal with the demands of all these people and keep her position. Sir Lucius manages to find excuses to visit his neighbor and her lovely companion. Selena must constantly guard her heart because she is in real danger of falling for the handsome somewhat irascible Sir Lucius. This book gave me a Pride and Prejudice feel especially with the main characters. I loved Lucius! He’s definitely not a pushover, but he does have a tender side. Like Darcy in P&P he’s proud and also prejudiced against women in the sense that he thinks they are all after him for his money and title. I enjoyed watching his character grow and change. Selena like Elizabeth is prejudiced against the upper echelons of society. She thinks that because of her father’s downfall that she will never be accepted and is unwilling to even entertain the idea of Sir Lucius because of his station. It’s a delightful, well written, regency romance with witty dialogue and an enjoyable story. I’m excited to read or listen to the next book in the series!

Cinderella story…
I was hooked from the first chapter of this story. So entertaining and interesting. Strong characters and a well written story of two people who find themselves at opposite ends of society. Each finding the strengths in the other to adore and lovingly excepting each’s weaknesses. I was easily kept at the edge of my seat throughout this book. Loved it!!!

Wonderful Regency Romance
I love Jennie’s beautiful writing. Her characters are so interesting.Selena was so sweet and kind but scared after being rejected by Society.Lucius was so amazingly sweet to Selena even though his lapse at the ball made me want to smack him.I love how he wanted to take care of her.And she really needed his protection from his sister Maria ( yuck) and Rebecca and the new Earl were horrible and deserved each other.I couldn’t read this book fast enough it was so good but then I didn’t want it to end either.Jennie writes the best romance and this one was so good! Can’t wait for the next book.

Tripped at the last 1/4
3 ⭐️ instead of 2 ⭐️ because I did finish it.It was a good read, promising to be a nice show-burn by the way it was written in the first 1/2 of the book. What was worrisome to that was how few pages it had to give that to you. Toward the end the book felt as though the author no longer wanted to write the book or the characters’ story. Unresolved conflicts were forced and slammed closed very clumsily leaving at least this rather very unsatisfied with the resolution. I won’t be reading books 2 or 3 for this reason.

Dignity and Bravery are more valuable than Status to a True Gentleman
Selena’s father gambled away his family fortune and drank until he died. Even though Selena had a successful season, her betrothed broke their engagement. She decided that the best way to help her mother and younger sisters is to accept a job as companion for her father’s widowed cousin. On the way to her new position, the stage breaks down on a cold, snowy night. She walks to a nearby house. The gentleman there is already irritated because another young woman arrived earlier. Sir Lucius assumes they both have the same devious intention. Thus begins his complicated acquaintance with Selena. His older sister is unfriendly to Selena, but his younger siblings eventually play important roles in their romance. As she bravely suffers through the demands of Lady Harrowden and her ward, she demonstrates a dignified and brave personality. Sir Lucius makes time to be with her. As they manage their emotions, mutual attraction develops. However, Selena is sure that her diminished social status would damage his reputation. It becomes amusing as Sir Lucius cleverly plans to prove to her that she is the wife he needs. I’m very eager to read the rest of this series !

A fall or a step up
I just loved the many varied characters in this story - even the ones who happened to behave in less than heroic nature

Fun read
Without being full of the balls and parties of the ton, the story is entertaining. Lucius is nice without being larger than life. He surprisingly blooms into a roguish, romantic hero once he accepts his fault. Selena is stubborn enough to almost ruin her own fortune. But sense prevails and all ends well.
