Is this ozone free? I got another brand and I don't like the ozone odor besides is harmful

I don't know about ozone, but I have never detected an odor associated with the use of this product.

Can the Essential kill toe nail fungus in expensive wool socks or is common washing sufficient?

Thank you for reaching out. We do not recommend that you use SteriShoe products to sanitize your wool socks due to fire concerns. Regular washing and drying should kill the germs or bacteria in your socks. However, washing them in Borax is also good for excessively smelly or dirty socks.

Why is this so much more expensive than competing products, what is the difference that makes this worth the extra cost?

I have not looked at competing products. This was the product recommended to me by my podiatrist. I have had it several years. So far as I can tell, it does a great job. The company also quickly responded to replace a malfunctioning connecting wire.

how long does it take to treat shoes - the chart says 45 minutes??

It should have a timer. Mine shuts off after s set time which is probably 45 mins. I usually do two passes per shoe.
