Yogasleep Dohm Sound Machine Plus Nightlight and Footswitch, White, 1 Count (Pack of 1)

I have four other white noise machines by this brand and love them. However, this product is not ideal. The “foot pedal” is only inches from the actual machine and will not remotely reach the floor unless the whole machine was on the floor. Also, the “nightlight” is not much of a night light at all. I bought this particular one for a baby nursery and it is more of a hassle than my other Dohm machines.

I was hopeful that I could use this as a sound machine when I needed it for slight tinnitus, but I also was really excited about the night light feature.WHAT I WAS HOPING FORI was hoping I could use the nightlight without the sound on, but very disappointed that it only works if you have the sound turned on. Also, the night light is controlled at the machine, not by the foot switch, and I don't like that either. I wanted to be able to hit the foot switch and turn the night light on or off "hands free." The nightlight is also a glowing orange and rather ugly in my opinion. I would have liked a soothing blue or even in orange, but not so bright. More than that, you really have to press the switch fairly hard and hold the unit with your other hand to turn the night light on or off (you can't turn it on or off with one hand).FOOT SWITCH LOCATIONThe foot switch is only 12 inches from the main unit, so the only way to use it as a foot switch is to locate the unit on the floor. (You can see it on the photo, it's really close to the main unit.) Which means if you want to turn the night light on or off you have to bend over. It's another 6 feet from the foot switch to the plug. If you put the unit on a table, the foot switch acts as a hand switch.THE SOUNDIt is very much a swooshing sound and definitely drowns out background noise. I like that it has two controls: one by rotating the top of the unit and two, but rotating the main body of the unit. This controls both the overall tone and the volume, so there's a fair amount of variation. But, it's the only sound it makes, so if you're looking for a traditional sound machine with waves, water, birds, etc. this isn't for you.MY ALTERNATIVESI am having better results just by downloading some music on iTunes (or you can buy the CD on Amazon) and setting it to repeat on my iPhone. My newest favorite is Delta Sleep System by Jeffery Thompson. I never have slept so good with that CD. I love nature sounds too and my favorite is Ultimate Nature Sounds Volume 1 by Paradise Music.Everything seems backwards to me on the unit. The foot switch should be 12 inches from the plug and it the main button on the unit should control the sound on/off and foot switch should control the night light.I can barely give this a 2-star and only so because it does do a good job of drowning out background sound. I won't use it though (I was provided this as part of Amazon Vine so I didn't purchase the unit). I will have my friend who has really bad tinnitus give it a try and maybe she will like it better than me. Now I just need to get it packed back in the box which is a challenge :)

The item arrived not working out of the box. I've contacted customer service and they are sending a replacement me. I had a very good experience with their customer service. I will post more once the replacement item gets to me.Out of the box it's a very pleasing unit aesthetically with a modern decor. It's got a pretty nice heft to it and it's a lot classier looking than some of the other chintzier sound machines I've seen. The footpedal will only serve as a footpedal if the item is actually on the floor as it's very close to the actual unit.The nightlight isn't extremely bright. More useful for general orientation at night than actually lighting your room.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ok we received our replacement pedal and the unit was working properly.We love the sounds that the Marpac puts out. For us the biggest difference is that there seems to be something much more settling about an actual whirring mechanism pushing air through vents than the reproduction of a sound through what are usually tinny speakers. The effect is much more relaxing and it does a better job of filling out the room and blocking out sound.I do wish there was a little bit quieter of an option as this device is meant for a medium to large master bedroom and is great for sleeping but a little too loud in our room for reading. Otherwise we absolutely love this device.

My husband and I have been to many hotels where there is noise in the outside halls or upstairs room (we try to always secure a room at the top floor) and we can't get to sleep, or awakened by some noisy, rude person coming in late. My husband hates to wear ear plugs, and most hotel fans on their heating/cooling units do not cover the noises. Having this near the bedside helps mask many of these hotel noises without interrupting sleep. It is steady and soothing and doesn't blow air on your face or rattle like a fan (we've tried those too in the past). It is so light and small we can carry it in a purse or in luggage onto airplanes without adding hardly any weight. At home, it easily masks the intrusive sounds of barking dogs outside, or car doors etc early in the morning. I prefer a little longer cord, but this works fine by the bedside where there is usually a plug in. I also like that you can hit the button with your foot. This would be great for parents of small children who awaken easily with sounds, or just go to sleep easier with the soothing sound this unit makes. It also works as a nightlight, so no more stumbling to the bathroom at night. It isn't a bright light, but enough to light a guiding path.

I live next to the train line and was constantly woken up by the trains prior to getting this amazing product. Highly recommend.
