It's working great so far.
I installed this outside about 5 days ago and it's working out very well so far. At night there is only a small area of reflection that almost looks like a small spotlight in the image. It's not a problem at all, but it's not there if the camera is used alone so I think it's worth mentioning. The case came with some plastic wall anchors along with both screws & bolts for attachment (so that you can pick what works best for you). I really liked that I had the choice of hiding the cord completely (by passing it through the wall) or by routing it somewhere along the outside wall.My outside lighting is enough for the camera to avoid night mode (infrared), but when I force it to use night mode it works just fine too.

Great Workaround for Nest Outdoors
I got tired of waiting for Nest to get it's act together by making a dedicated out-door camera and so I bought this case which works great with my old Dropcam which was previously mounted inside the house. The case has a built-in heat sink which will will keep the camera from over-heating because they do get hot. Materials seem to be good quality and all the needed hardware is supplied. I decided to run the provided USB cable through the wall directly from inside the base instead of through the channel cut in the back of the mounting plate. Thus I have no exposed wiring that can weather, fray, or get cut. The cable is long enough to go through any wall and uses a standard USB adapter that connects with a micro-USB plug on the end of the cable for the A/C wall connection. This was a smart move because the micro-USB plug is smaller and allows for drilling a smaller hole than would using the standard size USB plug. It works great and the protective front cover doesn't interfere with the optics. One drawback: The infra-red lights were designed to work up to about the 25 feet of the typical room and not outside. Therefore night vision on this camera is useless for outside (after so many feet). No matter, I use motion sensitive outdoor lighting to provide a night time view of any activity in sight of the camera. I mounted the camera under the eaves of my garage to watch my driveway and patio. Be careful not to expose the camera to direct sunlight as it could fry the optics. I cannot comment on how well it holds up in the rain since I live in a drought area of the country and rain heavy rain (if any) is months away. Better to protect it by mounting it under an eaves or awning, etc. Nest warns that this camera is for indoor use only so outside use could void any warranty, which is why I'm using an old out-of-warranty Dropcam. NOTE: Nest announced that it will sell an outdoor version of its excellent camera sometime later in the year. I don't know if it will run on A/C or batteries. I didn't want to hassle with batteries so I opted for this set-up and so far I have no regrets.

I think there might be some quality control issues at hand here....
I give this two stars because the price was right, and the hardware seemed to be well-constructed.I don't know if this is a widespread problem among these cases, or whether mine was just a defective unit, but the power cable did not feed consistent power to my camera. The TINIEST jiggle or bump disconnected the power source. Even IF I happened to be lucky enough to get the case closed with the cable in a position that powered the camera on, by the time I had mounted the thing, it would be disconnected again. I honestly don't think this is a problem on my camera's end, as other micro USB cables work consistently. This has to be a QC issue. Sorry guys, but I'm sending this back.

Works awesome even in the heat of summer, Wish cable was a bit longer.
I've had this case for about 3 weeks now.I was worried about mounting one of my nest camera's outside in the heat of summer, So I bought this case seeing that it had a built in heat sink. It was easy to assemble and mount to the wall on my back deck outside the door. Camera's been running fine even with it the weather getting well over 100 degrees lately. I do have this mounted in the shade so it doesn't get hit with direct sunlight, so I don't know if that would cause an issue. But it works awesome on my covered back deck.Only complaint I had is that the cord that comes with the goose neck case is awfully short, Way shorter than the cable that came with my nest camera, so if you don't have a power source near by where you are going to mount it make sure to get the longer cable from these guys to go with it.I was going to buy a second one to put on the other porch entrance to the house but ended up getting a wired DVR/Camera kit instead, because I was able to get that whole system for about half of what the cost was going to be for another nest cam, goose neck case and the longer cable for this case. But I'll update down the road in a few months to make sure that this is still working well and keeping the Nest Camera from overheating.

Nice case, but...
This is a nice functional case for using a Drop Cam outdoors. I had removed my camera from my Nest account because I was going to move it and set it up again. Unfortunately when I removed the camera from the mini-USB cable, the connector insert broke off the cable. Now I have to try and figure out if the old cable is replaceable and if so where I can purchase a new cable. If they can figure out how to beef up the connector I could rate this case higher than 3 stars.

Thanks Dropcases!
You know, I'm one of those people that gets a gut check on if I shut my garage or not when I'm 20 minutes into my drive to work. Nothing like opening my Nest app and seeing the garage shut. The biggest issue this solved for us was night vision as we originally had the camera behind a window and quickly learned that's a no go. Now the camera is outside and the night vision is superb (see pics!). It was super easy for me to instal. I mounted it above the garage door and the wire runs through the top of the weather strip and plugs in. I had some issues and started to blame the case with the service cutting in and out but when I moved the camera back in doors the same issue was occurring so it was my internet provider. I've had this bad boy for several weeks and haven't had any internet issues in weeks. Love this case as I do believe the new Nest outdoor camera power wire would have been to big to simply run through my weather strip and I had two Nest Cams and didn't want to buy another. I highly recommend this case if you've got a cam already and want to use the night vision feature outdoors.
