Q: Will this strap be appropriate to connect to a 200-500 telephoto lens?

I am using it with 200-500 + D500, connected to the lens foot, it works properly, just make sure you tighten up the screw really tight in case it go lose and everything fall apart

Q: Can this sit over the neck?

Well you can hang it just about anywhere but it's designed as a sling type strap. It wouldn't work very well over the neck.

Q: Which is better for a heavy lens? This or the Sport?

My camera is Canon DSLR along with the canon lens 24-105mm.. So far I have no problem. but if you're concern then go for the sport.
