Kate Klise is one of my favorite children's book authors
Kate Klise is one of my favorite children's book authors! This one is definitely a favorite in our house! It's a true story, but it has lots of interesting facts about Ella Kate - the 8 foot 4 inch woman who starred in circus freak shows in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Delightful artwork, funny facts, and an uplifting storyline make this book a real gem! The moral of the story - to always stand tall, even when being put down or bullied - is a lesson that cannot be taught enough! We love Stand Straight Ella Kate!

Great nonfiction for young readers
Great non-fiction story. Ella Kate was from Missouri, making this even more interesting for my young reader as we live in St Louis.

Ella Kate and her family are wonderful role models
We have a lot (A LOT) of kids books in our home and this is one of our favorites, especially for my 6-year-old. I'd say the age range can be several years above 6, however. The themes of perseverance, grit, family, diversity, and compassion are integrated into the plot in graceful and effective prose. We enjoy that there is a photo of Ella Kate and brief epilogue biography at the end. This is a beautiful story with an elegant communication style.
