Super effective, quiet dehumidifier for my basement
I am thrilled with this dehumidifier. It's a lot smaller than my old one that died, and I was worried it wouldn't be as effective for my super moist basement, but it's great! The reservoir is small, which would be an issue if you have to empty it - in my basement I'd probably have to remember to empty it like four or five times a day in the summer - but this comes with a plastic tube you can attach to the back to drain into a sink or a drain, and it's so simple it seems unbelievable, but it really WORKS!!!My basement is about 14' x 30' with 8' high ceiling and an additional crawl space in back.My utility sink is pretty high up and the tube doesn't work uphill (no pump, it's literally just a cheap plastic tube), so I put a sturdy board on top of my dryer next to the sink and keep the dehumidifier on that makeshift platform, with the hose going into the utility sink. It's been running for 2 months and no issues. To use the dryer I just lift it off, remove the board, and then replace it when I'm done. A little bit of a pain but much better than having to remember to empty the reservoir over and over every day, and I can leave it running when I go away.My house is built near a river, so it's in a floodplain and basements get really wet, with mildew and mold if it's left alone long enough. With this dehumidifier it doesn't smell bad down there anymore, and things I store in the basement don't end up with that "basement smell". It makes my whole house less likely to smell like mildew in the humid humid summers we have over here. Two tips:1) The drain hose comes folded up and has pretty intense bends in it, creating several flattened spots in the hose, so when I first unbent it and hooked it up I took some chip clips and butterfly clips and put one on each of the the bends to push the edges of the flattened spots in the other direction in hopes of opening up those flat spots. Doing this did not get rid of the bends entirely, but loosened them up enough for water to get through. The water comes out slowly in drips and dribs, so there doesn't need to be much space, but I wanted to make sure the water wouldn't get stuck. It might work to warm up the tube with hot water before trying to squeeze out the flattened spots, since it's plastic - I didn't try that but I bet it would make it easier.2) Don't forget to clean the filter. There is a red light that goes on when it's time, but that red light seems based on how many days it's been, not actual monitoring of the filter. I'm finding that sometimes it looks clear and not in need of cleaning but if I rub gently with my fingers, a lot of dirt balls up and comes off. I just clean it with my fingers, but be gentle! You don't want to have to replace the filter.I'm super happy with this product, and recommend it for your basement or other room.

Love so much I ended up getting 2!!
Hope this helps someone else. It was hard choosing for me but feel was great choice!Imagine the Setting: hot, humid (86% outside) Alabama summer, Moderate home size 1854 upstairs/1854 downstairs.Heat pump was working so hard to keep it comfortable and the rooms still felt hot and sticky.Purchased initially on 4500sq dehumidifier and placed upstairs. Within a few hours it was feeling more comfortable. By the next day the settings on AC was turned up and the rooms still felt great.Added screen shots of the control and humidity levels to reflect how this unit is doing for us! It is great! After a couple weeks I purchased a second one for the downstairs space. For me it’s not noisy. On low it sounds like a quiet ceiling fan going. On the highest setting, the db is still in moderate range, for me it sounds close to an oven hood vent fan so is not bothersome.I love the easy to use control panel. Easy to read and adjust. It also has indicator lights as to clean filter and empty full reservoir. Also it has a large reservoir to collect water or you can use the drainage tube to run outside. We have ours going outside now so I don’t have to remember to empty it. The first days I was using the reservoir until I decided which room to place it. Definitely doing the job the first 24h I had to empty it twice!!I like the filter is a fine mesh and easy to clean and does not have to be replaced just cleaned gently.Great purchase obviously as I have gotten two.

The only thing that worked, but has its flaws.
My front porch was skunked two months ago. After this happened the slab under my home got skunk oil and the smell would not go away because the smell seeped through the wall and into the interior stair area.I had read that using a dehumidifier would help lessen strong odors, and this appears to be true. I was opening the window. spraying everything with vinegar but the smell did not go away.So I bought the dehumidifier. It managed to dry the hall area from 59 to 35 and lessened the stinky skunk smell about half. This hall is humid for some reason- perhaps because it has one of the few single paned windows high up for light. The negative about this, is first the instructions say don't use it with an extension cord. Well how is that supposed to work when you want to use it in an area with out an outlet? At the very least the cord should be a few feet longer. Its very short, and inconvenient. I had two choices put it in the downstairs bathroom or put it at the top of the steps. I would much rather move it to the center of the steps... But nope.Second, it doesn't switch off. I set it to dehumidify when it reaches 35 to stop running, but it never stops. It runs continuously and gets pretty warm and smells machiney.I am relieved to report though, that I much prefer the smell of the machine running to the skunk oil smell that is trapped in the stair. So this is a vast improvement. But its not a 100 percent cure.If the machine was able to be used with an extension cord, and if it switched itself off as advertised, it would be 5 stars.

Life saver
I live in Florida in a 70’s apartment complex with window a/c and bad circulation. I can’t keep mold away and the house perpetually smells musty no matter what. Until I bought this. I’ve had this thing running for less than twelve hours and I’ve had to empty it twice. It has pulled 2 full gallons of water from my 900 sq ft apartment in less than 12 hours. I expect I’ll need to empty less often once my place reaches an equilibrium, but the reading started at over 70% humidity INSIDE MY HOME. It’s down to 49% now. I can’t believe the difference.
