A spider you’ll LOVE !
Kovea Spider is a well built , folding canister stove. Great performance , you will need a wind shield in breezy conditions. Flame control is good .

The piezo spark lighter is a good idea. Avoids all that fuss with lighters on airplanes.
Light weight, stable and the preheated coil prevents flare up in cold conditions.

Most Versatile Stove
I love the Kovea Spider and would recommend it to most people. I say most people because I know some people out there are more of a weight snob than a low waste person. After digging around for hours I determined that the fuel that produced the least amount of physical waste would be a refillable 1lbs propane bottle. However, there are not many stoves that are backpacking stoves that run off of straight propane. Of course, I found converters but some people had difficulties with them not working with certain products. I discovered that Kovea has an adapter to attach propane to butane stoves and it was the adapter on the market with the best reviews and the most reviews. That adapter was manufactured with their products in mind, so I determined that I would look at their stoves. The Kovea Spider is excellent and holds up well with the extra 200F that propane burns at over butane. It isn't as lightweight as some backpacking stoves but it is still decently lightweights and has an excellent surface for pots to sit on. It also has a hose so you can keep your fuel source further from the direct flame. I totally recommend this product for anyone trying to accomplish a similar portable kitchen build. I love my Kovea Spider and will be using it on the trail for years to come.

Maybe the perfect canister stove
My two cents - if it helps anyone.I've used white, solid, and canister fuels for years and with a number of stove burners and cook kits and they all have pro's and con's. In most cases, however, I use canister systems for convenience, which makes my gripes about them more significant. They are top heavy and tipsy with a full pot - even with a tripod - windscreens / thermal shields are not recommend for safety reasons, canisters lose pressure as they run low - especially in cold weather, and because they work on pressure I always had some liquid leftover but not enough to cook with.So enter the Spider. It sits low, safely allows for thermal shields, allows the canister to sit away from the flame and, of course, allows for liquid fuel burn - and this is the big point. Above all other features having the ability to invert the canister when fuel vapor is to low to cook with (temp. and or fuel level) allows me to use it in colder conditions then normal and get maximum use from my can. The only caveat is that you should allow a few minutes of urn to heat the metal fuel feed before inverting to prevent / minimize flare-ups. But once you adjust flow it works perfect. Its construction feels and works like any other I've used, folds down into my GSI soloist kit with lighter, canister, soap & cleaning sponge with no problems. Burner has good heat distribution (not a blowtorch) and doesn't create a hotspot. Valve is smooth with excellent flame/simmer control. Add the LP adapter and use a Coleman tank!In short this is an awesome stove that is now my go-to when using canister fuel. Who cares if instructions are Korean. Don't use a piezo igniter - they all suck! If you need help using then YouTube to the rescue. No system is perfect - a fact - but If you need a good versatile stove, this is it.

Great stove
This is my favorite stove so far. I also have owned a jet boil and still have a Snow Peak Giga Power stove, as well as esbit stoves, etc.The pot supports are very stable and the stove packs down small enough to fit into my 900mL titanium pot with room for a SnowPeak Hotlips, sparker, nanotowel and heavyduty foil windscreen. The ability to use the stove with the canister inverted for winter backpacking trips is why I chose this stove. IT takes some practice to do it safely, but it works great. the flame spread and control on the stove is great for boiling water and simmering/frying for gourmet meals. You can google "Adventures in Stoving" by Hiking Jim and look for his extensive review on this product.*performance update March 2014*We used the Spider on an overnight to Paradise in Mount Rainier, WA. We used it to melt snow and boil water for our dehydrated food in the 20°s F, with the canister inverted right on the snow. Love this stove.*updatefor those comparing the Kovea stoves (which is not well known in the US) and MSR stoves, be aware that Kovea manufactures the stoves for MSR, and Kovea has been designing and manufacturing stoves for decades. Their quality is the same as MSR's stoves, as they're all made by Kovea.
