I teach WebSphere Application Server courses for administrators. I found a wealth of background information in this book that will profoundly influence my future lectures. Knowing how WebSphere Application Server uses Eclipse and the Open System Gateway initiative (OSGi) is a great help for understanding both troubleshooting and configuration. Colin Renouf does us a great service by shining a light into some inner workings of WAS that are not documented elsewhere. Although Colin goes into significant technical detail, the reader never gets lost in this detail. The book is one of the more readable explainations of WAS internals that I have ever seen. This book gives a wonderful explaination of the internals of web services and messaging. The book devotes a full chapter to each of these topics. If you do WAS scripting, these chapters make an excellent companion to the analagous chapters in WebSphere Application Server Administration Using Jython. The Colin Renouf's internals explains what happens under the covers while the scripting book explains the administrative scripts.Every WAS administrator should read this book.
