An exercise in frustration
I bought a 5 month-old EW-36 on Craigslist from the widow of a man who'd used it "half a dozen times". I wish we'd taken more care in reviewing because even at half the retail price, it wasn't worth the price.Once we got it fully charged, we immediately realized that the speed-control knob had *zero* affect on speed. With just the throttle, it was very hard to keep the scooter to a safe speed even outdoors. I wouldn't even contemplate using this indoors. Breaking is via hand-brakes that are hard to squeeze for me, never mind my mother. This is *not* appropriate for elderly users. A better mechanism would've been automatic breaking when the throttle was off.The overall quality is terrible. The latch that holds chair down over the compartment is broken. The ignition has come undone from the plastic cover. And the forward/reverse mechanism sometimes slips, sending you backwards when you want to go forward. These factors along with the non-functioning speed limiting control, make it dangerous to use this anywhere.Lastly, dealing with the E-Wheels dealers is futile. I've lost count of the number of unanswered emails and un-returned phone calls. I finally got ahold of a "technician" to order some parts. It's been over a month and I haven't seen anything from them.If you really want one of these things, do yourself a favor and order direct from china from alibaba.com for less than half what E-Wheels is charging. At least then you *know* you aren't getting service but you're saving a bundle.

Might not be right for you .....might be
This is my experience after putting many hours on this scooter.1. it is not good to drive this scooter in wet weather as water will damage the electronic boards and connectors located in the cavity between the wheels. ALL the system boards and connecters sit exposed between the 2 back wheels and water/mud will splash up on them and damage them . Should of been built with a housing/barrier to protect these parts. IT IS NOT THE SLIGHTEST BIT WATER RESISTANT.2. This scooter W I L L ! tip quite easy and will do wheelies way too easy. The center of gravity is high and can feel wobbly at mid range speeds. ODDS ARE YOU WILL GET HURT ON THIS SCOOTER IN TIME!!! (4 wheel model version for a higher price}Good for shopping however because you are not a low rider looking up at everyone and everything. Small basket on back does not allow for much storage and hard to reach.3. the welds for the seat hinges are TERRIBLE/UNSAFE. Seat is Very comfortable4. the brakes are not good/responsive at higher speeds. One must have really good grip force to work the brakes and engage the parking lock lever.5. the fenders and side plastic crack quite easily.6. I replaced all my lights with LED versions to save a huge amount of battery drain especially with the brake lights coming on all the time.7. front glove compartment so cheaply made it defies being useful. It falls apart.8. I disconnected the antitheft motor lock out because it failed quite often.9. it turns on a dime so it can make all the tight turns which is a really good thing!10. I disconnected the turn signal buzzer and then added a bypass switch as the noise could be annoying at times.11. one has to be careful about "throttling" when the speed dial is turned up as you can get caught off guard and can wreck into things. The initial start movement when the throttle is slightly turned is jumpy as it is not a smooth slow transition but more of a jump forward.. It takes awhile to get use to the way it coasts when you let off of the throttle as some sellers advertise electronic braking but the one I bought does not have this feature.12. battery life/distance has been excellent for me.13. parts are easy to acquire.14. the reverse toggle switch is cheap quality and can come loose.15. my battery charger became defective after the second charge and was immediately replaced. (seems to be a common failure from reading other reviews) Although the replacement has held up to several dozens recharges?16. cheap floor mat slides off quite easily.17. have seen these advertised as handling a weight from 300lbs to 500 lbs depending on seller. different top end speeds and distance capabilities depending on seller.18. Draws a huge amount of attention from kids and adults which can be a bad thing.BASICALLY IT IS CHEAPLY MADE AND I WOULD CONSIDER UNRELIABLE IN MANY INSTANCES. It is not very forgiving to scratches and bumps. It must be treated fairly delicately compared to any of the other models on the market as it is not constructed with but the lightest/thinnest of materials. The electronic componets, switches and wiring is the cheapest quality possible.ODDS ARE YOU WILL HAVE PARTS FAILURES!!!!!I have a Dodge Caravan with the back seats folded into the stowaway position and a light fold up aluminum ramp to which I open a side door and stand next to the scooter as I drive it up the ramp. It sits right behind the driver and passenger seat.B O T T O M Line....... is I LOVE IT!!! I love the looks also... as a mechanic/electronics tech I can keep it running while others may not. TO BE HONEST I would not trust the safety of this scooter for anyone who is frail or fragile as it is too light in the front end, tips easily, and possibly too fast for some people.I have bought several used ones from others who have had electrical problems with them.

So Far, So Good
It doesn't come 'ready to ride', not unless you have a crowbar handy. It comes on a pallet, with a wooden 'cage' surrounding it for protection that is made from old pallet wood. The nails have been pounded down, so you don't need to worry about that. Splinters, on the other hand...Once uncaged, it is indeed ready to ride, save for the fact that it has more in common with a street-legal moped than a mobility scooter in terms of the controls.- When you turn it off or let go of the throttle, it goes into neutral. There are no automatic brakes.- The throttle isn't a paddle or trigger. You twist the right handlebar grip, just like a motorcycle.- The brakes are drum brakes. You squeeze them you would on a bicycle. Anyone with poor hand strength should not use this.- There's a toggle switch to change from forward to reverse. It's not in a place you can reach while keeping both hands on the handlebars.===Okay, seeing that we're on a roll here, let's go on with some more of the potential areas that may cause you problems:- It's wide. Our rear fenders are nicely striped with scrape marks because we couldn't cut a given corner on the way out.- It's long. It's nearly 5' long. This means it won't fit on some chair lifts, such as on buses.- The seat doesn't adjust in height. It moves back and forth, but not up and down. Fortunately, it's a good height for a normal-sized adult (5'8"), but someone shorter may find their feet dangle.- The floor mat is worse than useless. I've found that I sometimes need to use my feet to stabilize myself when I round a corner too fast. Having a piece of plastic slip and slide underfoot is not a feature.- The 'trunk' is not waterproof. There's a gap between the under-seat trunk and the seat itself. While I don't expect it will become soaked in the rain, it's not a completely sealed container.- The forward/reverse control is a switch that you need to remove your hand from the handlebar to flip. I said it above, but I'll say it again. This is probably the biggest dissatisfier we have with this scooter.===Okay, with all that, why did I give it four stars? Because we really like it.- I can't attest to the 35 mile range, but I know we can use it for multiple days around town without charging it. After three days, the battery indicator was finally in the middle of the topmost box out of 5.- I can attest to the fact that it is speedy. In fact, it is speedy to an alarming degree. I've opened it up once to see how fast it can go, and it can go faster than I'm comfortable going. At speeds I am comfortable going, it's quite fun.- It has high and low beams. We don't own a car, so we ride this all our waking hours, including some nighttime jaunts.- It has a beep-beep-beeper. Let's face it, going in reverse is a fact of life. It's not the direction we go most often, but it is one we'll use at least once a day. While the beep-beep-beeper isn't tied to the reverse gear, the fact we can turn it on prior to backing up is a good thing.- it can lock the steering wheel to one side or the other. This means that, even if someone lifts this thing (200 lbs, and it doesn't come apart) they won't be able to steer it. There's one oddity: if you turn the wheel all the way to the right and then lock the steering, it won't budge more than 5 degrees. if you turn it all the way to the left and lock it, the steering can swing almost to straight.- "Hill? What hill?" Our other scooters' battery meters definitely let us know when they hit an incline. We have one scooter with a battery meter that goes instantly from green to red at a mild incline. With this one, it barely budges.===If you're thinking of using this in the house, look elsewhere. This scooter is too big, too hard to turn around. If you're thinking of using this as your travel scooter, make sure your transportation solution works. Measure your ramp, get the specs on your wheelchair lift.If you do not have good gripping strength, stay away from this at all costs. However, if you need to chain together a bunch of errands, then you will find this a pretty good scooter. You might even rave about it as much as I just did.
