Highly Recommended. Would buy another if my current one broke.
Summary:I found Pet Zoom on Amazon in July 2011 and have been using it ever since. I really can't believe Pet Zoom works as fantastically as it does. He still fights me, but that's only because he doesn't like his paws being messed with. Once I get him to calm down, I can file his nails just fine. Pet Zoom really does a great job to not only shorten the nail (by a reasonable amount given that it is a nail file and not a nail clipper) and round the tip so that it's smooth and doesn't have any jagged edges to splinter and break off. It's the best thing I've ever used. I have complete control and can easily file the nail from all sides, including tight areas like the dew claws. The biggest hassle is getting the dog to be still. The only time a nail clipper needs to be used is if I fail on my end to maintain his nails with the Pet Zoom on a weekly basis.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The long-winded version:1. I have a seventeen-pound Yorkie who is a timid dog and a little hand shy. He doesn't like his paws being messed with and it takes some convincing for him to be still while I groom his nails. No, I have not yet used it on a bigger dog so I can't attest to a bigger dogs thicker nail, but knowing how great it has worked so far, I would definitely try it on a Great Dane.2. My little dog has bad allergies and tends to be itchy throughout the spring and summer months. I live in Houston, so this is basically from March to October. I have to keep his nails trimmed short and filed smooth to help prevent him from breaking the skin when he scratches.3. I've tried trimming his nails myself with a variety of tools including the clipper that supposedly senses the quick, but I'm afraid to cut too short (been there, done that) so I gave up altogether. In the past, I would pay extra for the vet to trim his nails when he went for his monthly allergy injections. It's not a problem for me to do it this way, it's only $12, but I think it's traumatizing for him (based on the change in his behavior). In order to avoid cutting his nails, I tried keeping them filed down with professional dremels, PediPaws, and everything else including a manual metallic nail file from a pet supply store. They just didn't work for my dog. The dremels and PediPaws were difficult to juggle with his long hair, and the manual file was extremely time-consuming and hard to get into tight spaces (like the dew claws).Pet Zoom really does a great job to not only shorten the nail (by a reasonable amount given that it is a nail file and not a nail clipper) and round the tip so that it's smooth and doesn't have any jagged edges to splinter and break off. It's the best thing I've ever used. His hair doesn't tangle in the rotating file, I have complete control, I can easily file all sides of the nail, and I can get into tight areas like the dew claws. The biggest hassle is getting the dog to be still. The only time a nail clipper needs to be used is if I fail on my end to maintain his nails with the Pet Zoom on a weekly basis.***Note: Let's be logical... It's a nail file, not a nail clipper. If you had crazy long nails, would you expect to trim your nails to the quick with a nail file? No. You would get nail clippers and then use a file to clean up the last few millimeters and smooth everything out. It's the same basic concept. If your dog has super long nails, or if you go weeks without maintaining their nails with the Pet Zoom, then you will need to use a nail clipper before rounding out and smoothing down the tip of the nail.***

Weekly Maintenance Machine
This Nail Groom Device is working nice if you can trim the nails like every week or so (after washing the dog). I use this groomer on my Shitzu.I also own the Pedipaws nail Trimmer but that device is eating batteries and breaks down - I am already on my third one. This PetZoom seems to hold its strength better on the two batteries it needs. It looks like this device has a smaller rotating apparatus and will keep its power up better than the Pedipaws (which needs C batteries and a lot). The only thing is that this is more a machine to keep the nails up with. (almost like filing your own nails weekly - at least). It is not strong enough to let go of the nails and than catch up. You will need something more powerful.

nice and quiet, but weak performance
Thought I'd give this a shot because I had nothing to lose since my dogs HATE their nails being trimmed. The good thing about this is it seems quieter than most battery powered trimmers. The bad part is it drained the battery pretty quick and took forever to see results on the dog's nail. Another negative is, and I might be missing something, but there's no way to replace/sharpen the grinding head. If your dog stays still long enough to trim the nails, go for it. I went back to using the dremel.

Under powered
I should have paid attention to some of the reviews. This is awkward to use and underpowered. Maybe it would be good for a cat, but my dog's thick nails do not fit into the larger opening. Practically useless.

Cheaply Made
When I got I took out the batteries of the closest remote to try it. Its battery departnent looks cheap like the batteries are about to move out of place. The biggest problem I had though was that the switch was verry sticky and took a lot of work to turn it on. It suited what I needed though I found out that my dog is vicious with any type of grooming.

This Product Delivers What It Promises
I have a Dachshund Miniature and since the breed is bred for digging into Badger holes, the nails on the front paws grow particularly long. Cutting his nails was always a torture session, for both of us, and there was always the risk of cutting the quick and causing him to bleed, which was literally, a bloody awful experience.I purchased this product as an alternative in the hope that it would lessen the trauma for both my pooch and me, and the other reviews I read had high praise for its effectiveness and ease of use.I want to add my voice to the others. I used it this morning and it was truly the opposite experience from using clippers. At first he was a bit gun shy because this was something new, but after two or three nails, he stopped fidgeting and I could handle the file easily. The nails, after just 2 or 3 seconds of filing, felt like polished stones. I had to remove the plastic tip "file dust catcher" because his nails were not long enough to actually get through that to get to the rotating file, but after I did that, it was truly a breeze.Very quiet motor, very effective filing, very happy dog and VERY happy owner.

So far, so good!
Received quickly and was not disappointed. It's usually a battle to trim my dogs nails, so much so that I pay the groomer to do it even when no other grooming is necessary. So it was a savings right away, even if I have to buy one every other month, which I hope I don't. I spent the recommended amount of time suggested, 2-3 seconds per nail. It's not as noisy, doesn't get as hot nor does it vibrate as much as a dremel and there was no chipping. My dogs tugged a little bit at first and though they didn't enjoy it, they weren't horribly stressed. I think if I do their nails every couple of weeks (allow time for the quick to draw back) I can get rid of that extra growth they've accumulated.

thanx
it is a good product. i appreciate the fast and good results only when my dog's nails are too long to walk. because i tried this product for shorter nail trims but it worked only for the front legs. the front legs grow always faster than the back legs. IMPORTANT to know in order not to hurt your pet....So for the back legs I prefer filing most of the time... if i get lazy and let the nails get really long, then will use this product on the back legs too. (everyone please listen to your pets voice when grooming. if s/he is shouting yes you are hurting your pet. or if he/she is very nervous about getting his nails done at a pet spa, please stay away from that spa, please

Doesn't work on my kitties!
I bought this as an add-on item to another order in hopes that it would make trimming my two cats' nails easier. Finnigan has to be wrapped in a blanket when we cut his nails, and Pants was a stray as a kitten and is still too squirmy to let us even try to cut his.I tried it on Finnigan as soon as I got it in the mail, and well, it was not my miracle solution. The plastic hood on the tool makes it extremely difficult to get the cat's claw inside. Finnigan put up with about thirty seconds of my trying to get his nail in, and then started growling. I did finally manage to get the tip of one of his claws into the tool, but it didn't work fast enough for him to sit there and wait for it to be filed down. I'm going to continue using the traditional clippers with him, and we'll just wait until Pants goes to the vet and get them trimmed there.I think this is designed more for dogs, who have larger nails. I don't know why they market it as a tool for cats too. Since then it's been sitting unused on a side table. If I meet someone who has a dog (our friends are all cat people) I'll give it to them to try.

Problem solved
I have a very nervous dog. Of course, his nails grow faster than bamboo, and the clippers terrified him! I got this as an alternative, to try out.For this guy, the Pet Zoom is the way. He's so used to it now that he just lays back and sleeps. Only problem is that he is a big dog, with thick nails, and the target is clearly smaller dogs. I just remove the shields and use the grinder alone. Minbd you, that means I have to put something down to catch the dust, but it's a small inconvenience. If this one dies, I'll definitely buy another.
