It has a handle!
I looked through photos of hundreds of compost containers to find any that have handles on the side, not on the top - I found 3. This is the only one not made of plastic. Even though I got to it by process of elimination, I still love it. I empty my compost into a huge yard waste bin, and I like to be able to do it with one hand, while holding the bin lid open, and to be able to bang it to help empty it without denting it. This works super well for both. (Flippy handles are hard to use even with two hands without getting compost on you). The lid fits on snuggly but is easy to open. It keeps out the flies, and keeps in the smell. The handle on the lid has the special trick of being able to hang on the lip of the container while you're filling it - brilliant! It's easy to wash out, sturdy, and reasonably attractive. I expect it to last many many years; a rare and wonderful thing these days.

Best compost container ever. Worth the money!
Looks stylish and sanitary and is the PERFECT size for my counter right by the sink -- much better than 1/2 gallon milk cartons or other compost containers which are too big. I have to drop my compost off in town, so I save it up in a 5 gallon paint bucket with lid. It's so easy to pour the contents of this container into the bucket, much easier than if its handle were like the one on a pail.Stainless steel is more sanitary and doesn't hold smells like the plastic containers I've used before. The lid seals tight enough that no smells leak and no bugs can get in, and it hangs on the lip of the container when I use it, which is a really nice design feature.Other reviewers have commented on the gap in the plastic seal inside the container such that food scraps can get underneath it and it's hard to clean. It's true. I tried to remedy it by using Gorilla Glue to fill the gap. It worked fairly well, though it's not pretty on the inside, but who cares?

Surprisingly worth the price. High quality
Looks very sleek and blends into the kitchen. I've had it for about a year. The lightweight lid and lid handle are smartly designed. I can open, dump scraps, and close it with just a pinky while holding the scraps in the same hand. No odor or fruit fly issues. Holds a lot (even several whole bananas and three corn husks plus other scraps). Easy to clean (except for under the inner plastic rim, things get stuck in there which is annoying but it's not the end of the world). It is still the easiest to clean and use kitchen compost bin I've ever experienced. Plastic gets gross and the ones with the vents and filters get fruit flies and have many seams.I wish it was a little less prone to fingerprints but that is usually not an issue as I am usually only touching the lid handle with a single finger, except for when I go to dump it, after which I clean and polish it anyways.I worry about the handle (maybe for no good reason) particularly when I'm shaking and tapping out the contents into my compost pile. I don't see any signs of it coming off or anything, I think I feel that was just because it's flexible.

Great counter compost bin
This is easy to clean, has a fairly small footprint, is good looking, and keeps the smells in and fruit flies out.We empty it into our outside compost bin at least daily so things don't have a chance to start composting in it. The handle is easy to hold. The lid is secure and is easy to take off and press back on.It's so much better than our old one that had a filter in the lid! Fruit flies used to be a big problem. So far, this one is working out great!

Black plastic rim has an edge inside the pail which will be difficult to keep clean. Toothbrush?
Attractive. Seems to be well made. I have a much larger (3X?) stainless steel countertop compost bucket which I've been using for a decade+ for all the vegetable matter which goes in my compost pile, and I love it. Its lid just sits on top and I have no problems with bugs or odor. At the occasional first appearance of a vinegar fly, dump and wash it and flies are gone. I can't imagine having one of the many newer ones which have holes in the top and require a filter that has to be replaced. That's crazy wasteful. California passed a law to reduce landfill methane production which will require us to put all food waste (including bones, fat, seafood shells - things I do not want in my home compost pile) in yet another new curbside refuse container (I'm horrified to think what that's going to smell like in just a very short time. Should I be washing it out with detergent on the driveway where the greasy, soapy water will run to storm sewers that drain directly to the bay? Bad idea. So washing a very stinky, greasy bin in my shower and then needing to scrub down the shower so I don't fall on a greasy floor plus drain cleaner and a fan for the odor?). In any case, I bought this new fairly small compost container for just those non-home compostable items and think it will be fine. They haven't delivered the new curbside containers, so I'm not using it yet. I can understand the complaints people have had about the black plastic rim ring. I expect a toothbrush will be needed to clean around the lower edge. I suppose it quiets the sound of putting the lid on and stops you from crimping either the edge of the container or the edge of the lid as you open and close it. We'll have to wait and see how many years until it breaks (or will I intentionally break it out because of cleaning frustration) and do ensuing rim dings make it difficult to open and close. If you are a very small household, generate little compostable waste, or are willing to take your compost out almost daily then this is attractive and has a small counter footprint.

perfect for kitchen compost
we collect food scraps for our bokashi buckets and this item has worked out perfectly for our household. my husband really likes it because it has that minimalistic stainless steel look but i like it since it can hold 2-3 days worth of scraps with no problem and no escaping odors! sometimes small particles get caught inside the gasket on the inner lip which is the only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 but in actuality it really is still easy to clean. i like the handle too, it makes it easy to dump the scraps into the bokashi bucket.
