Easy to use, detailed report provided
I read the reviews of several of these types of products and this one had many positive reviews. After buying it and using it, I can see why. The process was simple, the company kept me informed through the whole process, and the results were amazing, very detailed. From what we can tell by the appearance of our dog, the results are also accurate. What we thought were the main breeds in our mixed-breed shelter adopted pet, were pretty much spot on.

Recommended by my vet, easy to use
We adopted our puppy from a rescue organization that had no idea what breed mix she was. Everyone had their guesses so we decided to buy a doggie DNA test. Our vet recommended this brand and another one for most accurate results. Instructions are incredibly easy and the swab process was quick. Just send the swabs back in their prepackaged mailer. Canโt wait to get our results in a few weeks and see if we were close on breed guesses. Iโll update after we get them back to see if the price is worth the results! Purely based on ease of use, Iโd recommend. *Update* we got the results and are thrilled! While they werenโt exactly what we were expecting (surprise!), they make complete sense with her size and looks. Iโm confident the results are accurate. It helps us know what type of exercise she likes/needs and how to manage her diet/exercise going forward. Iโm so happy we bought this! Still 100% recommend.

Easy to do. Great results
This was a great product. I adopted a puppy from a local non profit and we are curious what bread he is. The test was easy, the hardest part was the swabbing of his mouth. I was worried it would say โsuper muttโ or something generic. This test provided excellent results. I know the 11 breeds he has in him. What percent each breed is and information on each breed. He is a mutt but now I know what type of mutt! Thank you!!!

Used Embark AND Wisdom with surprisingly similar results
This review will be a comparison between Wisdom 3.0 and Embark. I bought these during the Christmas holiday season, so they were on sale. Wisdom 3.0 was $49, Embark $99, with the intent of only using Wisdom, it was bought first. When we got the Wisdom results, I thought they got our sample mixed up with another dogโs DNA. The test results look NOTHING like our dog that was sampled. So, we bought Embark. Embark took longer, perhaps it was the time of year, or maybe it was just their process. Both tests say they go back 3 generations. Wisdom advertised 350 dog breeds, while Embark says it has fewer breeds but more in depth genetic marker testing. Wisdom results: Siberian Husky 25%, Chow Chow 25%, Boxer 12.5%, American Staffordshire Terrier 12.5%, Border Collie 12.5%, Breed Group (Herding, Asian, Terrier) 12.5%. We thought Wisdom screwed up, so we bought Embark. While we waited for Embark, we began to notice our dog matched some of the Wisdom results. We had our baby only 3 months before we tested her, and she was a rescue, so we truly had no idea what her heritage would be. We looked online and found some breeds we thought she looked like (Carolina Dog, Dingo, Norwegian Buhund, and the animal shelter said she was Sheltie and Shiba Inu) and NONE of these breeds came back as a result. How could that be? Hence, why we thought there was an error on Wisdomโs part. However, while we waited for the Embark results, we began to notice the breeds that were listed in her Wisdom results. She has โsnowshoe feetโ of a Siberian Husky and she LOVES the snow, the outdoors, and to RUN, RUN, RUN (and sheโs quick); every once in a while we can see the Pit Bull Terrier in her face (when she gets a certain look); her paws curl like a Boxerโs and when she jumps up she doesnโt just put 2 paws on you and stay there, she continues to paw at you like a Boxer. Her tail, of course, curls over her back like a Husky and Chow, and she has upright pointy ears like many of the results do, no argument there. I also did some other research on coloring, and discovered Huskyโs can be this blonde coloring with white. Embark results finally came back: Siberian Husky 28.9%, Australian Shepherd 20.0%, Chow Chow 15.2%, American Pit Bull Terrier 11.6%, Boxer 9.5%, Border Collie 7.1%, Supermutt (Alaskan-Type Husky, Alaskan Klee Kai) 7.7%. Emabark also gave a Wolfiness score of 0.9%, their site says most dogs are 1% or less. WOW! Imagine our surprise when it came back nearly the same as the Wisdom Panel. I guess Wisdom didnโt actually mess it up. So, what we have learned is, our baby is mostly Siberian and Alaskan type of Husky, Pit Bull type of Terrier, Chow Chow, Boxer, Border Collie, and some Shephard type. The more we live with her, the more we begin to see the results in her. We received the Wisdom results about 2 months ago from this writing, and the Embark results about a week ago. After comparing both results, we are happy we did both. They were both VERY similar, with minor differences. It has been an enjoyment to learn about our baby, her breed's temperament, and what to expect when she is full grown. She is an excellent watch dog (not guard dog), and she is so loving. Embark seem to have more information from their results which is really interesting, including other dogs they tested that are close genetic matches to our dog. We would DEFINITELY do both tests, together, again.

The Tail (see what I did there?) of Shelby's Ancestry...
Shelby is our (now) two year old rescue dog. After a rough go the first couple of months with illnesses, I am happy to report that she is wonderfully healthy and happy and we all obviously love having her around. At the time of her rescue we were told that she was a Lab / German Shepard mix; that conclusion presumably being reached solely by looking at her and her litter-mates. Although she looks phenotypically black lab, some of her litter-mates had that German Shepard brown, so I was always curious as to Shelby's true lineage. As an aside, while I believe most of the folks who run shelters for pet rescues have the best of intentions for the animals and their futures, their goal is to get these pets adopted so they will often tell prospective adopters whatever they think the adopters want to hear in order to have them adopt a pet...in actuality very little can be truly known about these animals. That is not meant to discourage rescues because it is a very noble thing to do, but part of the reason I bought Wisdom Panel was to attempt to corroborate what we were told about our dog with what she looks like and how she behaves with some scientific documentation. Here goes. First off, the test is very simple to do, two cheek swabs are all that is needed and once completed you package them and send them to Wisdom Panel's laboratory for processing. A registration number comes with each test which allows you to set up an online profile for your dog and that profile is the place to which the progress and results of your dog's test are uploaded. For Shelby's test, it took about three weeks from when I mailed in the sample to when the results were ready. While I was initially underwhelmed with the "50% mixed breeds" result, a deeper look into the report helped fill in the blanks of just what "mixed breed" represented. That term is what Wisdom Panel attributes to genetic data which was present in our dog's DNA profile but which came from greater than three generations back. The additional data provided by Wisdom Panel helps you to narrow down just what those mixed breeds represent as even the mixed breed results contain genetic markers suggestive of certain breeds. We knew the Lab part, and the mixed breed part suggests that she is has a lot more lab in her from previous generations, but the 12.5% American Bulldog and 12.5% Chow Chow were big surprises to us. Overall, this test was a worthwhile purchase because it helped us learn a bit more about our dog. In addition to fun curiosity, I felt there was a value in knowing our dog's genetic profile because now we can be certain of things we thought we knew and have also learned some of what we, prior to the results, had no clue about. More in the sense of what to expect behaviorally, health wise, and life expectancy wise based on her unique genetic makeup. I attached a screenshot of Shelby's results and her profile picture which came directly from the information page of Wisdom Panel. In addition to that information, the results contain a percentage breakdown and breed family tree for the analyzed dog.

Info regarding details of report sections and process timeline. Very impressed!
(Note: This is worth what you spend on it, truly, but the price goes up and down. We got it at $56 via a flash sale, and the price then went to the 70's. It went back down a few weeks later to the $50's, and now it's up to 80. This is in the space of less than 6 weeks. Keep an eye on the price or use a site that alerts you when the price here drops. No matter what, this is definitely worth it!) Best Christmas gift I've ever given, hands-down. We adopted Rose from a wonderful rescue organization in September 2015. She was supposedly half-Chihuahua and half something else, most likely miniature pinscher. Well... my sweet girl whom my (wonderful) vet said would likely average 9-12 pounds has grown to a svelte 22 pounds. Of course, he didn't know exactly what her parentage was, and neither did we. I got this for my husband for Christmas (Rose is his baby). The timeline was: Mailed 12/24/16, Email from Wisdom Panel showing receipt on 12/28/16, and we received an email saying the results report was ready on 1/12/17, which is 2 weeks and 1 day from receipt. We easily logged back in to the site (you register when you send the sample) and viewed the report. Congratulations! Rose is a Shetland Sheepdog, Miniature Pinscher mix. (OMG!) The report was easily downloaded to a pdf which was 10 pages long, and included the following sections (as of January 13, 2017): (1) Key Breeds Detected โ a genealogy chart which shows great grandparents, grandparents, and parents); (2) Key Breed History, Appearance and Behavior (one section for each key breed detected; in our case we had two), which tells you things like height, weight, ear, muzzle and tail characteristics, roots (e.g., the Sheltie has its roots in the Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland), coat type and colors, markings and traits; (3) Ours had a Mixed Breed Ancestry section, since this was part of Rose's DNA makeup. It included information such as the groups within the mixed breeds (in our case, her mixed-breed ancestry was made up of the Terrier Group, Companion Group, Sporting Group and Hound Group. There's a bar chart showing how much of each group makes up her Mixed Breed ancestry. Each group within this section has information like the type of dogs that make up the group, what they were initially bred for, traits, etc.) (4) MDR1 (Multi-Drug Resistance-1) screening - this DNA test tests for the MDR1 genetic mutation, which can mean a dog is more sensitive to certain drugs. (Thereโs more information on this on the site.) Ours showed the Rose does not have the mutation, and isn't at increased risk for experiencing side effects from drugs that are pumped by P-glycoprotein.); (5) How Key Physical Traits Are Inherited - shows the influence of breeds on a dog's appearance; (6) Additional Information - includes the following sections: (a) Predicted Adult Weight Profile, (b) Talk to Your Veterinarian (show them the genetic results, esp. if there's an MDR1 issue), (c) How Wisdom Panel Works, and (d) A $15 off coupon to purchase an additional kit for you or friends/family (7) A Statement of Authentication certificate, which includes the names of you and your dog, the date of the test results, a genealogy chart showing great-grandparents through parents, and note certifying the authenticity of your dog's canine genetic background as determined following the analysis of the genetic markers. Again, The PDF can be easily downloaded and printed. I am VERY happy with the price, delivery, ease of gathering the sample (two cheek swabs; very easy and quick), and the timeline until we received the results. I've already ordered another test (we have two dogs) and would highly recommend it to anyone.

What in the MUTT?? Great product and Excellent Customer Service!
Want to know more about your doggie? Well, this is an affordable, quick, and easy way to find out! They send you a kit in the mail with clear instructions printed inside. It's all very easy and self-explanatory. In terms of taking the samples, I found it was easiest to stick your finger in the corner of your dogs mouth while it's closed, pull the corner of their mouth open a little bit, insert the swab through the opening into the pocket against the cheek and teeth, jiggle/rotate the swab around for 15 seconds or so, and then pull the swab directly out. I found that technique much easier and less intrusive then trying to get your dog to hold its mouth open or holding the dog's mouth open long enough to sample. I got my dog from the local pound 12 years ago. At the time, he was just a puppy. I was told that his mother was a black lab/blue heeler mix and his dad was a miniature pinscher! If you're trying to picture the logistics of a miniature pinscher mating with even a smaller sized lab and have questions, welcome to every conversation about my dog for the last 12 years. So, I was overjoyed at catching this kit on an Amazon Lightning Deal and jumped at the chance of finally getting some answers about his background. With much anticipation, I sent off my kit. It was supposed take around 2-3 weeks, but I assumed it would take longer because that time frame included the end of the year holidays. Much to my surprise, the Mars Vet team delivered the results to my email on time! So, finally I had some real answers.....and what I was told 12 years ago at the pound was partially correct! My Damon is 37.5% miniature pinscher, 25% labrador retreiver, 12.5% golden retriever, and 25% mixed breed groups. Wow! I guess he really could have had a very persistent father! I find it unlikely I would ever be able to find another Damon, who has been a tremendous member of our family, but at least I know a little more about him and how to care for his needs. Thank you Mars Vet team! I really appreciate this service. I now know much more about my third son!

Very hard to contact
Donโt buy if you are in Australia, they donโt service here. They are also impossible to contact for issues, took half a year before I got to someone, who then let me know that our efforts to post to the US were wasted as the sample was nowhere to be found, and that they donโt do this for our area. Not sure if US people or areas have a better experience but this one was not good for us. The two stars is just cause they eventually did give us our money back after much running around and emails.

Great Results!
Great company with good communication. Results are very satisfying and I am happy with them! Highly recommend this DNA company. Had tried another one but their results were not worth the money paid.

Removed my doubts about Mambo's ancestry
Mambo was sold as a caboodle, but he looks nothing like a poodle. He is also far too big (22kg) to be a cavoodle. Wisdom Panel results came back showing that Mambo is 37.5 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 25% Golden Retriever, 12.5% Labrador Retriever, 12.5% Poodle and 12.5% Shih Tzu. (No picture and no information about Mambo given.) The fact that poodle was in Mambo's genes finally justified why he was tagged as a cavoodle. The strong retriever component also made sense in view of his built. Now everytime someone asks what breed is Mambo, I can give a definitive answer. Really cool product, thank you! =D
