For leather boots how does lexol conditioner compare to mink oil? can apply lexol cond. then mink oil?

I have found that Lexol is a great softener but not much for waterproofing. Mink oil will probably do a better job against water

After applying a pair of leather boots can I then apply something thicker such as Sno Seal, wax, etc.?

This is a great conditioner. Let the leather dry completely once used, hour or so, then apply wax.

Can't you just use soap and water to clean the leather (then allow to dry) instead of a Lexol cleaner?

I've used a damp cloth to clean a durable leather jacket, but I wouldn't do that on other leather items. Certainly not with soap. The Lexol cleaner will condition and remove surface dirt. You can remove the finish if you use to much or scrub too hard. Usually, a one-time wipe and wipe off is enough.
