Topeak Mini 9 Multi-Tool

I'm a beginner bicyclist with a Diamondback Edgewood Hybrid 2015. I had my bike built by a sporting goods store for free, so I really can't complain about a few out of spec alignments. In particular, the derailleur was skidding against the crank covering at 3rd gear so I needed to make a simple adjustment. Originally I bought a set of cheap hex wrenches so I could pick and choose exact sizes I needed to go on a key chain. I found that trying to use a basic allen key was really inconvenient with bikes. There'd be many tight spaces where I'd have to constantly remove and reinsert the wrench to continue turning. This Topeak mini 9-function Bicycle Tool not only has the right sizes, but has a much needed pivot point to make turning in tight spaces much easier. With a regular allen key, there are many times when you can only turn a bolt half way before hitting the bike frame, then you need to remove and reinsert at the beginning position to loosen/tighten further. With Topeak tool, you never have to reinsert. Simply flip around 180 degrees when you can't turn anymore, then continue turning and repeat. Or simply use it as a straight tool like a screw driver. Great little investment and comes with a nylon velcro-secured holster with belt attachment (I attach it to velcro straps from my front bike bag). I'd consider this more versatile than a bike tool. Ironically, I still needed a separate allen key to loosen the tools hinges in order to use the allen keys!

Normally I will not write a review for a product until I have had it for a few months, but I got this last night and liked it so much I decided to go ahead and write the review now. Originally I was going to order the Mini 6 because I had one Allen head bolt on my bike that I didn’t have a wrench for, but I saw that the mini 9 was only about $1 more so I got this instead. The first thing I noticed about this is how small it is. This thing is tiny, but still gets the job done, and weighs particaly nothing. It also comes with a nifty little case that has a belt loop on the back. I used this to tighten every bolt and screw on my Giant Escape 2 and could feel that it was high quality. This little tool will live in my panniers now for Incase something happens while I’m riding. I would highly recommend this for anyone to keep on them when riding a bike.

I've had the Mini 9 for over 10 years. Its perfect for my bike, and so tiny it'll fit anywhere. And one of strongest mini-tools I've ever owned. BUT... now that I bought a 2nd one to keep with my scooter, I realized the included pouch no longer has a belt strap loop on the back. That was super handy to attach this tool to anything: belt, bag, or bike itself.

I purchased this to replace a much larger and heavier tool that had many pieces that I did not really need or use. This tool has all of the features that I need for basic on the ride adjustments and cuts down on weight and complexity. It does develop some surface rust from moisture but I feel that is pretty normal for these types of tools and materials used.

Topeak makes great products. This is one of them. The tools you need in a small size. Fits in "bento box" or saddle bag easily.

I bought this to replace a slightly larger, though less functional Parks multitool that was starting to fall apart. Compared to the Parks tool, this is smaller, lighter, more functional (it has a screwdriver), and easier to use. I always had a really hard time opening the Parks tool and I normally had to use a coin to lever the first tool out. I don't have that problem with the Topeak - its design makes it easier to get open. I like the selection of tools too - although I'm pretty sure I have no use for that star shapped tool - what the heck is that for? I would have prefered a flat-blade screwdriver instead of the star tool. If anyone knows where I'm likely to find a use for the star tool on a road bike please let me know. It comes in a small case which is awesome (even has a belt loop). Whenever I pulled the Parks tool out of my saddlebag it would grab everything it could on the way out and I would end up spilling the contents of the saddlebag all over the road. The Topeak case solves that problem nicely. This is a very basic tool. You will still need a chain tool and a spoke wrench at a minimum unless you really like long walks home. Interestingly I'm starting to see the Topeak symbol all over my bike lately. I think I'm starting to like that company. They made my toolset, pump, and saddlebag. LOL - hadn't noticed before.

It's much easier to use than my bigger one as the lack of side casing makes it easier to access the alun keys. They are stiff enough to be sturdy. Cute case.
