Does this have to be used with fencing or can it be hung from an awning?

It could be hung, but it should be strapped down in every corner or it might blow all over the place. It is fairly light in weight.

Yes but it may shred where you cut it over time

If you double up the panels, will it prevent the ability to see through it? (I am trying to block my dogs being able to see the road next to our fence

I had the same problem with my dogs barking at my neighbors. I used just a single layer and the problem ended. I've had the first 50' panel up for about a year and it is holding up well.

Does the colored material fade over time?

I had black around my porch for 2 years and never faded in direct sunlight. I have the sand color now at my new place. It's a great product.
