Back with the bundys
The third year of classic sitcom married with children comes to region two dvd at last.Featuring the exploits of Chicago based family the Bundys. Everyman Al scored four touchdowns in a single game of football at college, and seemed destined for greatness. But that didn't happen. Working a minimum wage job selling ladies shoes. Married to lazy chat show and bon bon loving Peggy. Father to brainless bimbo daughter peggy and lusty virgin son Bud, they live a somewhat miserable existence. Their lives constatly clashing with that of their straight laced and career minded neighbours steve and marcy rhodes. The third season contintues the show's steady move away from more conventional sitcom territory and into sharper areas as the writing plays up the lifestyle of the bundys to the full. The occasional surreal element and thinking animals of later years is yet to come. But here we have twenty episodes of very sharp writing providing often laugh a minute character based comedy, spread across three discs. Each episode runs roughly twenty two to twenty five minutes in total.Languages and subtitles on the dvd:Languages: EnglishSubtitles: Dutch English French German.Rights issues mean that the song love and marriage, used as the theme tune on the tv show, has had to be replaced by a different piece of music. This is the region one dvd release converted straight over to a region two and since the former came out a few years back it hasnt been updated at all. Thus the movie and dvd trailers on disc one that purport to be for new releases are now rather out of date. The reference on the box to a lost episode refers to one called I'll see you in court that never got repeated in america for a long time as the network didn't like some - rather mild - sexual references in it.And the box also promises ten easter eggs spread across the dvds featuring interviews with the cast. If you can't find those get season one and you'll find all these as part of a cast reunion documentary that was on there. But even so, twenty two episodes of a classic comedy is enough to make this worth five stars.
