Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, 5th Edition: 9781437708257: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: The best study guide/review you can buy - This is the BEST review guide for the NCLEX that I have found yet! I bought this not only to help prepare for the boards but to also use as a study guide for my last year at school. I went ahead with the 5th edition versus the 6th simply because it was cheaper, and many of the reviews listed said that the 5th and 6th editions were very similar in regards to content and layout. One point to mention: the 5th edition contains the majority of the questions on a CD-ROM, while the 6th edition gives you access to the questions online. Other than that there didn't seem to be much difference between the two editions from other reviews posted. I bought a used book, and I was extremely lucky that the CD was included with it! However the book is the major selling point for me - the chapter on test taking strategies alone made it worth it. This chapter helps you break down NCLEX style questions so you can get them right on the first try. This was incredibly helpful for me as I get very anxious during exams and have a tendency to try and 'race' through the test so I can be done with it. This has gotten me into trouble with exams more than once, so to read this chapter and get a better understanding of how those fickle NCLEX questions are written is very helpful! Another bonus - each chapter not only reviews key concepts and issues, but also goes over MEDS! If pharm is giving you trouble you definitely need to check this review guide out - it gives you the key points of what you need to know for the meds, how they're given and the possible adverse effects. In a nutshell - buy it. You'll be glad you did! Review: BUY this book!!!! - I was really struggling with the amount of reading we had in our first semester of our second year. I'm in a two year program and we have Med Surg 1 and Peds in the semester together. I was reading so much I had little time to make flash cards or pick out the important stuff to study over. This book has all the important stuff in a concise manner with practice questions to boot! This helped me pull my Med Surg grade from a C to a B from midterms to finals. I also used it to study for a peds test that I didn't have time to do all of the reading for and I made an 88! I wish I had bought this book sooner!! Another tip- This is great for studying for finals and hesi tests. If you use the CD and go to study mode it will let you pick what topics you want to cover and only quiz you on those. For example if you pick all peds topics you can answer over 300 practice questions just on that subject!! Great for reviewing! I love this book and it will be utilized even more for my next and last semester and for studying for the nclex! Good luck and hope it helps you as much as it did me! Just wanted to update! I used this book and read the Kaplan review book and passed my boards on the first try with the minimum number of questions. Do a solid review and take your test quickly. Wrapping up at school does a lot of reviewing within itself after you take your finals and end of the year tests. Go do it while it's all fresh!

A Must Have for the NCLEX
This is a good book to review all the material comprehensively after completing nursing school and studying for the NCLEX. I would find it difficult to memorize this material straight from the book; without having learned it before. What is it good for? During nursing school, this book will summarize what you REALLY need to know about disease conditions and how to perform procedures and such. Its the short version. But if you want in-depth details you need to go to the book. What's it good for on NCLEX? This book helped me to see the material I learned from in NCLEX perspective and helped give me a mindset for what to look for. After taking the NCLEX I can say this book DEFINITELY helped me on most questions to say --- that's DEFINITELY the answer. I believe it helped me see right through NCLEX's hidden topics within the question. I breezed through NCLEX first time with 4 days of studying after graduation in 85 questions. So how do I know it works? (I only had 4 days to study because of a family event that happened.... but in those 4 days I read this book from 7am-1am the next day for 3 1/2 days; I read the ENTIRE book). I also used it during nursing school and made a 3.72 GPA; this book was awesome and I always recommended it to others. The book gave me the REVIEW I needed. Because I'll be honest, there's a LOT I had forgotten that I covered within the past year of nursing school. This book brought me up to date on all the specific conditions and treatments within just 3 1/2 days. So anyway. It did its job. And again, to those in nursing school: the details ARE important and you won't gain understanding of the BIG concepts through this book. You learn that in school. This is a review. Not a substitute for messing around in nursing school for 2 years and then deciding you want to learn the material to pass NCLEX. I wish you all the best in your future careers. Nurse on!

Excellent book to prepare NCLEX. It comes with a CD which is extremely useful. You can practice questions on your computer or take the CD with you if you can't carry the big book with you. Very well explained.

I'm in 2nd year, covering maternity/paediatrics, as well as medicine/surgery and I have found my test marks jump in the classes which covers practical theory. It's not going to cover how to think like a "caring, compassionate nurse" (maybe the CNRE focused more on that), however, we Canadians are writing the NCLEX in 2015. I recommend getting on it NOW to get into this kind of test-taking mindset.
