I live in NYC, so we don't have a hard water problem, and the municipal water is very good quality. However, the bath pipes in my 116 year old building shed enough rust to make bath water light brown, and to gradually turn the bottom of my shower curtain a bright rust color. This filter, as well as the one I use in a separate hand-held, eliminates that problem. As the water is chlorinated here, I imagine that that is removed as well.
